My H tastes have changed since I started the H journey back in 1991 when I would brighten up my conservative business attire with a scarf. My favs back then were Daimyo, Cheval Fleuri, Rubans de Cheval and Carpe Diem. Due to the inevitable aging process colours that suited me back then no longer do, nowadays I favour brighter colours especially if there's a hint of rose indien in the mix. My all time fav and most well worn is my treasured Cavaliers du Caucase, my latest acquisition is Ex Libris en Parisiennes thanks to @scarf1.

Both beautiful scarves! And I am honored to have inspired you, as I have been inspired by many on this thread as well!

I know....If I only had the H stock pic to go by there'd be no problem....

And mine has not stopped trembling since my first purchase!

It's beautiful against your sweater Queenie!

Gorgeous dooneybaby!

I like the pic better...but know the blue will be a little easier to clean....
I like the pink better too, so funny cause when I told my SA to pull the Blue she almost started to laugh, she knows how I love Hermes Pinks and Oranges. But I told her I was trying to branch out! Texted her before- going to pick the pink one up this weekend(and maybe the blue too haha)

bobkat,
You knocked another great look out of the park! WOW!!! You are stunning! Love the shawl and necklace. (I also love your new avatar pic, too.) Lovely, just lovely!!!
You are so sweet, Ladybaga. Thank you!

:roflmfao: y'all!

gorgeous bobkat!
Thanks, bunnycat!

One of the things I’ve learned has been about color.
I started out rather willy-nilly, with Sales Googles firmly in place, though sometimes they were a little awry and I bought without really thinking. “Oh lookie here - a ‘bargain’!”
I’ve learned that there are some colors of pink I don’t care for on me and I don’t really like a busy floral pattern... though there are exceptions - of course.
An early mistake was Jardins Armenie (I have carefully deleted many of my archive pics of these errors)
View attachment 4596484
It looks like Pepto Bismol on me. I tried one day to take a photo of myself wearing it like a shrug, and shocked myself. I looked like I was wearing a granny quilt in a horrible shade. I re-homed it.
Oddly enough Chasse en Inde - also pink and a busy pattern - doesn’t make me feel that way.
View attachment 4596485
I struggle with Mythes et Metamorphoses, the pink is has a little of that shade a don’t care for and the blues are very cool toned. But every time I show it here, I get so many compliments. I think the dark reds save it for me and I love the pattern.
View attachment 4596487
Another scarf I found too cool was Flamboyant Web. The blue was icy.... so I tie-dyed it!
View attachment 4596488
And here I was thinking you could wear any and every color and look great! I got fooled by pink, too. I thought "Pink is one of those colors that flatters everybody". NOT! I had to rehome a few mistakes due to that fuzzy logic.

By the way, has anyone seen posts by @Croisette7 lately? I'm a bit worried by her absence...

My SOTD today is not really a toy and not really a game, but the design does show a lot of playing cards.

Cartes et Tarot is all about cartomancy - divination using cards. The focus is on a set of delicately coloured cards with people who look like they stepped out of an Austen novel.
View attachment 4589559
In the background are line drawings of cards from many different sets of oracle cards. I can see a Six of Swords from the Tarot Minor Arcana. The fish card might be from Lenormand. Justice with scales and a sword but no blindfold is probably based on the Rider Waite deck.
View attachment 4589560
Another scarf with cards and magical paraphernalia is La Magie. The items surrounding the top hat bunny are commonly found in the magic kits for kids (bunny & birds not included)

The Cartes et Tarot is sooo cool! I don’t think I’ve ever seen this one before... And, an amazing shade of green

Toys! Dolls and Rocking Horses.
Zabavushka Scarf
Raconteur Moi Le Cheval.
Aaaah, twins on Zabavushka!! The best CW!

These are incredible, Fifi! All so gorgeous. FYI, I was at Hampton Court in October. What a place!
Thank you so much! I love Hampton Court... So glad you visited as well! Did you see any of the people in period garb?

Tous les Bateaux du Monde reminds me of a “toy boat” a young friend and I “built” from a two-by-four, tin-can lid and misc junk, painted silver, attached a string, and floated on the water in a tank of some sort back when parents thought if you fell in and drowned it was your own lack of judgment exposed.
View attachment 4589949
Yes, reminds me of toy boats as well... This is such an unusual and gorgeous CW!

Magic Kelly is mesmerizing!
I am so in love with the cw of your Les Tresors d’un Artiste.
Thank you so much! Love MK because it ties beautifully. And, I fell in love with the caramel background of this Tresors... It is unbelievably beautiful

Absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks so much!

Thank you!

Kids all over the world like balloons and stuffed toys.
SOTD in the morning: India-themed Colour Masala
The guy with the toy elephant reminds me of the first Robin Dick Grayson who, in canon, had a stuffed toy elephant named Zitka. And the other guy with the skateboard? H has a fondness for skateboards. There's a baby with balloons and a bunny. And a clown juggling.

SOTD after lunch was the properly Western Jardin Enchante. The kids in the park are playing with hoops, hobby horse, scooter and chasing butterflies. And of course there are balloons and juggling clowns.

Amazing CW of Bains d’H

2 cws of Le Tour du Monde en 63 Cases. One with a really bright sweater!
Love both, but especially the caramel CW of the first pic... We are twins on that one! I also ended up with two CWs... It ties sooo beautifully

For me, “Let’s Play” means horses & polo!
Le Monde du Polo
& Grand Prix de Polo de Bagatelle.
I also discovered a boy with his hoop in
Paris - London 1850 (or is it called
Paris - London - Cent Ans A Londres)?
Of course I needed this one for the fantastic kelpie-like horse & it’s adorable cherub jockey!
All are amazing!

I showed this already, but this is my Bozkachi scarf (cotton 70cm). Buzkashi is a common English spelling. It’s a game played with on horseback using a torso of a young goat or calf as a soccer ball equivalent. Can’t find any information on this other than the author (Sophie K). Let me know if anyone has more information!
Oh, yes, I knew it would toe beautifully... Just gorgeous!

Off topic - Scarf Mail!
Panoplie Equestre. This border is amazing.
OK... I need this scarf! Gorgeous! I try on a different CW every time I visit the H store and walk away with something else, but you’ve pushed me over the edge... the problem is WHICH CW?! Yours is amazing!

A race is a game, right? If so, my new scarf mail - Le Tour du Monde en 80 Jours - fits right in. And... playing cards!

I had fun wrapping the Sieste au Paradis scarf 140 around my head today. One skill out of the ordinary that needs to be done more frequently. :smartass:
Then I realized I needed a new style of earring to complete the look.:giggle:
Oh my goodness! I love how you styled it! How did you ever get all of that silk into a turban? Fabulous with the earrings and a beautiful CW

On Fairytales, characters in design with toys, I’m guessing, Hansel carries a teddy bear and Gretal a doll.

Oooooh, what a wonderful scarf to own!

My last contributions for this week.
Did you ever play with a spirograph kit? I loved it when I was a kid. I filled entire notebooks with the spiral designs. It was the perfect toy for me.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirograph
Vertige reminds me of the spirograph designs.
View attachment 4593099
The spirograph won Toy of the Year award in 1967. Graphical computer games started to gain traction two decades later when the computer stopped being room-sized and became personal. Another 30 years later in 2017, H held an event Men Upside Down in Hongkong, and the featured motif was off the delightful videogame robot spider scarf Flamboyant Web, seen here in red CSGM 100 and a fuschia pocket square. I'm wearing The Game, another video game-inspired design, photo taken in front of a Pac Man arcade game machine. The Game has dice, match shapes-in-holes, coin slots, arcade game controls and ribbon cables, toy horses, wire frame models and a nod to Saut at the upper right corner.
View attachment 4593100
Each one fantastic! And, i used to love the spirographs!

Le Jeu des Petits Bonheures chez Hermès à Paris designed by Sophie de Seynes.

Hi, all!

I just realized that I should have posted last night my time (back in California), since it's already late in some parts of the world! With apologies, here we go:

17 Nov 2019 -SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW- Your changing (or non-changing) tastes in colour, design or format. Show us a scarf you bought early on in your H journey, and a recent acquisition.

I have been a collector of Hermes scarves since college and remember spending some campus job money on them! (I can speak several languages, and tutoring them paid at 'regular' high-end tutoring rates, so I could actually afford quite a few scarves!). Over the years, scarf colors in my collection got brighter and more red, but most remained in the 90cm format. I chose some examples:

The 'old':

A green Aux Portes du Palais Spring 2011 -- actually, I still wear this one! I was quite fond of wearing scarves around my waist. Would repurchase again for sure, although I don't have many colors in my wardrobe with which to wear this.

A pointu Caleche Elastique Spring 2013 -- I wear this one sometimes, very rarely. I don't mind the format, but I would not buy again, just because the colors are too dark.

Realistically speaking, I could get rid of a lot of scarves from the older days (except for maybe that APdP) and not feel a loss! They are just not the right colors and level of brightness for me right now.

The 'new':

Flamingo Party Maxi Twilly (the original one) Summer 2017. I do buy non-red scarves sometimes. Mostly blue ones

Arabesques Mousseline Changeante 140 Fall 2019. This one is a clear favorite, alongside almost a hundred other other red scarves!

Now it's your turn!
Amazing intro, Anna! But, most of all, I’ve enjoyed the pictures! All so fabulous, especially showing the development of style... Your latest acquisitions are amazing

My journey with H silks started with twillies for my bags and MTs. I did get a couple of 90cm silks as presents and inherited some too, but I didn’t really buy them myself until about 2016 when I was obsessed with solid colour CS or CSGMs that would match perfectly with a bag. Nowadays that isn’t enough, the design itself is important, how they fold etc.

This year I have been obsessed with moussies, bought my first on in January and this is my latest, number 3, bought in June when I was on a cruise. Before this year I couldn’t even touch a mousseline, let alone wear one. I always liked the pics here on tPF, but only got the courage when H stopped the production. I kind of realized it’s now or never and that they cannot be so delicate.
Fantastic! The other day I handled and tried on a moussie for the first time and I was so pleasantly surprised!

I'll probably spend a good chunk of time reminiscing this week. The end of the year is a great time for that and this will give me some excuse to plow through my scarf drawer(s) and explore.

One of my first purchase was this twilly (after being sure as shootin' that small formats were the only thing that could interest me...:roflmfao: ) Bouclerie d'Attelage. It has since found a new home (though in retrospect I shold have kept it as it goes with several bags....oh well...hindsight...I do still have and wear the t-shirt tho...it's a fav...)

One of my very first SotD pics! (And to all who have been participating in SotD since then- my sincere thanks and appreciation for always making me feel so welcome in Scarflandia!)

I just love the way you’ve evolved to trying the larger formats... This I’ve done as well... Your TT is magnificent and you wear it beautifully!

Like many other scarfies, I have trouble letting go of scarves which don't work for me. Sometimes, they have memories attached. Sometimes, I spent so long tracking that design down that re-homing it seems a betrayal of my efforts. And also, like many of us, I started off thinking that I'll buy just one :roflmfao:

This was my "one".
View attachment 4593785
I love the design of Caraibes, but this blue really didn't do anything for me. I collected scarves before I ever wore them. And when you buy them as art, you don't have to pay attention to whether or not they suit you. I wanted to wear my H scarves. So I had to learn which colours suited me, which shades of those same colours made me look like a Halloween escapee, and which colours I should just admire on others.

I still admire that Caraibes but I just took the major (for me) step to rehome it. First H scarf I bought. First H scarf I am rehoming.
It is so beautiful!

View attachment 4594040 My very first H anything. La Promenade Du Matin twilly. This little scarf is one of my workhorses.
So wonderful!

Old, new, changing? How about different interests running parallel, or amuck as it appears sometimes. What appears the norm is there is usually a story, related to the design or the designer or my life. On the other hand, I’d buy something just to see unique material, technique, fully intending to rehome asap.

My first scarf October 2018, went on to a good home: fellow Texan Kermit Oliver’s The Pony Express. unfortunately I didn’t keep photo. Second scarf: Marquis de Lafayette anniversary issue, unsure of 2007 or 2010, which i plan to sell only if starving in the street is the alternative. These historical-event ones remain high interest, unchanging.

then Pegase d’Hermes: heart melt.

View attachment 4594464

Most recently arrived: Music Maker, love the design but learning the hard way prune doesn’t love me. Hopefully, new home in the wings.
View attachment 4594469

As for Balade en Berline Marble: I thought this was my first and only scarf bought just for pretty but realized it’s very much the story of the artisanal skill and perseverance.
View attachment 4594470

BeB also highlights a downfall of the philosophy of “oh, I’ll just see this one from AW2019 and send it back.” I thought I have just 4 scarves from 2019. I have 6. O.m.g.
Hahah! Love this post... And, the Ballade en Berline Marble! Sigh... An absolute treasure!

I am just getting caught up and love reading the old new scarf stories. I started my scarf collection in 2007, so many moons ago. At that time Annie Faivre was a big name artist for H Scarf collectors. I only have a few of her designs now as Aline Honore designs seemed to capture my eye more and then I pared back on those too, and now like some of the designs from Ugo Gattoni to Alice Shirley and Octave Marsal.Guess H really does find a way to introduce fresh and talented artists to keep our interest strong. Sadly I have released quite a few 90, pochettes and even 70 silks. I do seem to wear 140’s more for everday including mousselines and CSGMs. I know this may surprise many but I have also begun to edit my mousseline collection too. My lifestyle has evolved a lot. i love the more monochromatic and solid colored silks nowadays! There are some exceptions including the wild Sweet Dreams and Rainbow Jungle Love, but otherwise I have gone more neutral on my silks for a quieter look.

Some examples of old vs new...

Older designs: Annie Faivre Zenobie, I only kept the 90 scarf...and released for Aline Honore Samourai shawls and silks

Savanna Dance, love animals but the chasing leopard always bugged me a bit, so I swapped in AS Mountain Zebra or Zebra Pegasus
View attachment 4594636

View attachment 4594634
View attachment 4594632

Not buying a lot of 90s these days. Hope this doesn’t rain on any scarfie parades!
What a wonderful post! You have inspired me multiple times... a while back with grey/yellow Samourais which I was lucky to get by the skin of my teeth (was told it was the last one in the US!), and most recently with the caramel Pivoines that I just couldn’t put off any longer... Brava!

I do tend to wear more recently purchased scarves more than older ones.
Here is a pic of the first 8 scarves I bought. All are 90s, except for one 70.
Several years later I started trying other formats- Moussies are now my favorite, but I do still wear 70s and 90s.
I also like CSGM and the men’s 100 format.i have more 90s than I need, but I have yet to rehome any.
Interesting that of the 8 scarves pictured only the Noel Au 24 Faubourg is still worn frequently( although only in Dec)

scarves: grands fonds( very first scarf), Jardin de Leila, en avant toute! QM2, en avant toute!, Noel Au 24F, Au coeur de la vie( original release), Au coeur de la vie (2014)

Wonderful post... Love seeing your parade, and still looking for your Avant Toute... Your latest purchases are divine!

I apologize for the bad exposure- there were a lot of reflections from mirrors.
Actual SOTD was an oldie- Au coeur de la vie - hadn’t worn this in at least a year, but it is finally fall in Northern California. Sometimes a new piece of clothing- in this case the cream sweater, can make some neglected scarves come out and play again.View attachment 4595308
We are twins on this beauty!

Another thing that has evolved over the last few years is my use of twillies. I used to wear them mostly on my neck (still do, now and then) like so:
View attachment 4595458

Now they mostly live on my bags....

View attachment 4595462

One thing that has stayed the same though, even with the shift in format favorites, is a love for purples, pinks and reds...

One of my first 90's was Cosmos (still have it) in cherry, burgundy and gold:

View attachment 4595465

And the men's Caduce' Rock that I got a couple of years ago in similar colors but a very different vibe.

View attachment 4595470

And bopping around running errands today in the dramatic purple/black/white colored uber giant Flamingo Party pareo again

View attachment 4595471
I am such a huge fan of your purples!

Caraibes may have been the first 90 I bought, but my love affair with H started because of Mythiques Phoenix. The affair with that birdie is still going strong. It's a constant in my collection and I doubt that will ever change. I think I have enough MPs in various formats to last maybe 3 weeks without a repeat :faint: (I try not to think too hard about this ).
IIRC this was the first MP I bought. It was off the resale market.
View attachment 4595600
This MP was the first scarf I bought off H US online. My finger trembled, so did my credit card.
View attachment 4595601
And this is my most recent MP, also my SOTD. I really like the 70cm format. Some day, I might divest myself of most of my collex, but these birdies will definitely be the last to fly the coop.
View attachment 4595602
One of the most spectacular Hermès designs ever! I am also a huge fan and love all of yours... How fun it would be to see a spread of these beauties!

I’m still a newbie regarding H scarves so I cannot contribute to this week’s theme. But I really enjoy reading all your stories.
My SOTD is Équateur MT with the anneau Régate
View attachment 4595687
So beautiful!

Sorry that I was only able to (with great enthusiasm) to like so many wonderful posts and eye candy - so I’m saying many belated words of You’re Awesome!
Back home now and I’ve been thinking about the H journey I’ve been on. I’ve always loved scarves, but I didn’t wear them everyday and often they were big bulky things. We don’t have an H where I live, I didn’t even know they had scarves... until 2016 when I decided that I was going to change myself inside and out. I found a blog (The Vivienne Files) and - zomg - she was using 12 H scarves and building wardrobes around each one. Well I’ll be darned - I read all the posts, started working on my wardrobe and started looking at H scarves. Ahem - as a frugal and sensible Hoosier - there was no way in H E Double-hockey-sticks I was paying THAT much for a scarf (  ) and began looking at evil bay. My first scarf was Daimyo
View attachment 4595812
And it was a jacquard. I had no idea there was such a thing!
In 2017 Mr Cookie finally got me to agree to go to Paris where I visited H in the airport. Because I didn’t find tPF until later on, I had no idea this scarf was such a blockbuster. I just knew I loved the colors. Parures de Samourais
View attachment 4595811
Back as of yesterday with my newest treasure - La Cité Cavalière
View attachment 4595810
I’m not sure where I was going with this - maybe that I have really and truly slid down the orange slope in that I will buy one at the boutique, and more than one at a time! :panic:
(I have even applied H math to justify buying an older scarf at what current prices are - after all if *that* was in the store it would cost as much!)
Haha! Great post! Cookie, all your choices have been exceptional from day one. And, Your latest acquisitions are magnificent! Well, as you know, I had pretty much decided which Cite Cavaliere I wanted until I saw you modeling yours! Now, back to square one!

I have to jump on the La Cite de Cavaliere (LCC) bandwagon here...closest I can come to theme is how I’ve changed buying habits. At first, eBay was my bag....literally, I bought the double sens on eBay, then scarves, then I discovered H.com.

It was FW2019 that really changed my behavior: first Le Jardin de Leila, then LCC. A post from NYC led to my calling the SS at Madison Avenue for JdL. And LCC got me into the Dallas H store for the first time.

Gorgeous!! la Cite Cavaliere is one not to be missed!

Already talked about formats THEN and now. Namely started with 90s, but now have a variety of formats with moussies my absolute favorites.

COLORs THEN and NOW :
Ok blue and aqua have always been favorite colors. One thing that has changed is that when I started I wore a lot of black clothes. Over the last few years I have moved to wearing a lot of navy- particularly in the warmer months. Also I own several navy/ white stripe tees. Scarves that look great with navy/ white or navy cream get worn a lot.

lately I have been pairing aqua or pink or burgundy with my navy basics.

another thought on colors: H scarves have actually opened my eyes to trying more colors. However, I now realize that I don’t wear scarves with orange or gold in them, so avoid those in future.

ok, I know you want pix- here are some recent ones

What amazing eye candy!

Gorgeous styling!

I struggle with Mythes et Metamorphoses, the pink is has a little of that shade a don’t care for and the blues are very cool toned. But every time I show it here, I get so many compliments. I think the dark reds save it for me and I love the pattern.

Another scarf I found too cool was Flamboyant Web. The blue was icy.... so I tie-dyed it!

I absolutely love pink on you. The MeM is the most spectacular CW of that design and one that has gotten away several times. Adore the FW on you

@lanit your bronze Pivoines sent me scurrying to Hermès.com!
I can relate... @lanit’s caramel Pivoines has been on my wishlist since the moment I saw her pics here, but kept putting it off until just recently when major fear of losing it forever, hit me. I am in love!

Loving all the stories of everyone’s H journey! My own H trip is very recent - never imagined I would own more than the 5 I had a year ago (oh that slippery slope). I was all about color to begin with - not really giving much thought to what would go best with my wardrobe or coloring. So there were a couple missteps which have been rehomed. But I was able to find others that I love and wear often

Lately, I’ve been searching out more neutrals. The bronze Pivoines modeled beautifully by @lanit is on it’s way!
You have amazing silks and wear them beautifully. You will adore the caramel Pivoines!

What a wonderful post! You have inspired me multiple times... a while back with grey/yellow Samourais which I was lucky to get by the skin of my teeth (was told it was the last one in the US!), and most recently with the caramel Pivoines that I just couldn’t put off any longer... Brava!

Wonderful post... Love seeing your parade, and still looking for your Avant Toute... Your latest purchases are divine!

I find that shade of green in quite a number of vintage scarves, but not in modern designs.
The two SOTDs - that is known as indecision in play

Always thought moussies were fragile, but they are really tough!
MP is certainly spectacular, and I'll probably continue buying them every time H comes out with another variant (I want one in a true finesse, and a changeant, and in 100cm cotton/silk... I'm greedy...)
