Anyone buy the Horizon 50 or 55 lately?
For those who travel a lot, do you see high end luggage often?
Thanks!

I fly every 2-3 weeks and I rarely ever see luxury luggage being used. I've spotted the occasional keepall bag but the nicest/highest-end luggage I typically see is from luggage brands like Samsonite at Terminal 5 at Heathrow.

It depends on how you travel. I wouldn't buy anything I couldn't take onto the plane with me, but if my travels were more land based I could see the argument for a larger piece.

I've been debating getting a Keepall for a while and although I have seen one or two on planes before, I don't think it's right for me. I usually travel solo or with one friend, so I'd have to carry it myself onto trains etc. If my travel/lifestyle was different then I could maybe justify the Keepall. For now, I'm going to focus on getting one or two travel accessories instead. I'd rather have a carry on case that I can throw in the back of an Uber or into an overhead bin on a plane without worrying about it too much.

Though I will still probably eventually cave and get a Keepall someday. But yeah, as a frequent flyer I rarely ever see high-end luggage around the airport, but that's just my experience.

USA here.

I see high-end luggage all the time. Some of these could certainly be fakes though as I do not study them intently.

If it suits your fancy, I see no problem with getting luxury luggage.

Personally, I would not invest. Luggage is constantly used and abused. Plus, I don't want my bag targeted. There is enough things to worry about while traveling especially internationally -- I don't need or want the added stress. JMO though.

I do LAX. Will never carry luxury luggage through this airport. TSA can be a hassle if they ever see anything nice. I always travel under the radar although I do own several LV luggage pieces so do purchase with ease of mind.

But over the last few years, I haven't been able to use them. Don't feel comfortable in the future either.

I’ve only ever used Keepalls. I wouldn’t take any LV luggage that I couldn’t carry onto the plane with me. Even then, I have been known to stress a little about my Keepall being in the overhead bin where someone else could throw their bag on top of it or otherwise cause damage to it without realising. Sometimes I’ve used my Longchamp or another bag I’m not so worried about, and I just carry an LV as my personal bag which can go under the seat where I know it’s safe.

An LV suitcase is an outright no for me. They’re beautiful but the only way I’d use one for travel is if I’m travelling in my own car.

I couldn’t agree more, I would only get a real Lv suitcase if I would fly usually with a private jet which I’m obviously not doing because I’m just a regular human being on earth. I do see the use of a Keepall because it can be carried by hand and over the shoulders for weekend trips / sport etc. But for regular travel use Lv suitcase is also a huge no, suitcases are getting stolen all the time and not to mention how they are treating them!

I've used my Keepall 45 on a plane and it fit under the seat in front of me. I didn't want to put it in the overhead bin and have people banging it around. It was a little too heavy for me to carry, so I will likely use it for road trips going forward. I have plain, hard side luggage and I just returned from a trip where they cracked the corner of it. If you have a window seat, watch how they throw them around. That said, no expensive checked bag for me.

I live on the west coast of the US and I frequently see LV luggage when I fly. Cost/damage is not concerning for a certain subset of luxury lovers. I am not in that group . I like to travel as light and unencumbered as possible. I use Travel Pro luggage on trips because I'm more concerned about the weight of my luggage than the brand. I do have a gorgeous Keepall 50 that I only use for overnights and road trips.

Years ago I had pretty much two keepalls, a garment bag and a vanity. I loved those pieces but it got to the point where it was really inconvenient to carry the keepalls and not have a roll-on suitcase. I got too insecure using them and didn't want to feel targeted, so I sold all of those pieces and now I travel with a cheap $50 roll-on suitcase from Marshalls. I love it. And it's roomy. Already after the first time I traveled with it, it got dented. But I didn't care. I prefer to check my luggage because of all the restrictions with liquids and cosmetics, et al. It is such a hassle, so I find it's a lot more convenient to check my suitcase and not have to worry about room overhead on the plane.

I am too anxious to bring my keepall on a commercial flight. If I was flying in business class with overhead bin storage, then maybe i would be comfortable bringing my keepall? I've been on too many flights where they run out of space in the overhead bins and make people check their bags. Checking my precious keepall?! Oh the horror!
I also tend to use public transit when I travel to/from the airport and the keepall is too flashy for my area (no need to risk theft)!
tl;dr, I'm probably saving my keepall for car trips only.

I've worked in aviation for 20ish years (both commercial and private) and there's no way I'd ever buy luxury luggage for travel. I've seen the way luggage is treated and I've witnessed agents specifically target luxury items for gate check because of jealousy. Private is a whole different thing, but I rarely saw any of our private jet customers use luxury luggage, most just used samsonite or TravelPro (which is what most of the crew uses). I do use a Louboutin tote for my personal item, but that's as crazy as I'll go and that's only because it never leaves my hand.
