Love the man not the ring. There's always opportunity for upgrades later in life! I'd rather have DH hold my hand forever until the day I die rather than with the ring!

AlbertsLove! Look at OVERSTOCK.COM! They have GREAT diamond rings...

I just found this one:

http://www.overstock.com/Jewelry-Wa...d-Engagement-Ring-I-J-I1/1980574/product.html

There is a 5% coupon code discount just for clicking on the site and if you type "overstock.com coupon code" into a Google window, you can find coupons for up to 20% off.

Seriously. They have tons of beautiful rings, good quality diamonds and are in your price range. The one I posted is $764.09 with the 5% coupon, but it might be less, and that one is 3/4 of a carat total weight and IJ I1.

Bluenile.com has a 1/2 carat 3 stone ring I/SI2 for 1200 and you can probably find at least a 10% off coupon online for them as well.

DO NOT BE AFRAID TO BARGAIN RIGHT NOW

Jewelers are hurting too and they need your business.

I'm with the other gals on this one. Tiffany's has a great brand image, but you will get a better quality ring, for much less cost outside of them.

Take 10 years and save up! For your 10 Year anniversary, get the "celebration ring"!

So nice that you found a good man. Hang onto him!

Thank you... I was drooling for a while...
I saw this ring because when we had 9 months together he got me 15 dollar ring just like this but fake. I got so many compliments... It would sparkle...
What do you guys think of this. I would not mind having to help to pay this. But is it too much???

I love the Tacori platinum one more. I think it is just beautiful and I would have been thrilled if my husband was able to give it to me 17 years ago. I didn't get a "ring" until 2 or 3 years after we were married cause we had a baby right away. Then I got a very small ring and upgraded about 4 years ago (after almost 13 years of marriage). But as much as I was thrilled with having a baby, I would have flipped for that 2nd ring too! Good luck and like everyone said - you can always get something different later. Your tastes will probably change too.

This ring is much prettier. But again, you need to learn about all this. Don't put money into a VS. You don't need that high of a clarity. But I would definately NOT buy a ring online that is an I clarity. You won't know what you are going to see until you get it. Please, please do your homework and don't get excited by just seeing a ring. If you bought this same ring in an SI1 or SI2 (which CAN be eyeclean) you can drop your price and save money. If you see something you like on Good old Gold, you can call a person and they will desribe the flaws in it to you and where they are located. Sometimes, the right setting can hide the flaws.

And once you learn about it all, educate your bf on what you want. You can be subtle about it.

You: I have really learned a lot about diamonds on pricescope. I wouldn't want a visible flaw in a diamond, so I wouldn't go lower on clarity than SI2.

See what I mean? Also, take a friend with you (NOT YOUR BF) to a reputable jeweler and ask them to show you some diamonds. Ask to see the I stones (clarity) and make them point out the flaws (known as inclusions). LEARN! Your best resource in saving money and getting what you want is knowledge. Also, look at some well cut diamonds next to some not so well cut diamonds so that you can see the difference.

You have great advice !

This is very good advice.

^Be aware the center stone is cubic zirconia... the high price is for the Tacori setting itself and the side diamonds. (basically the road I took for my own "upgrade")

since you were looking for Tiffany style... you might consider something in this vein. I would prefer an SI clarity over the I clarity tho...

THe heart ring from overstock was cute, but I priced a bit smaller diamond that was heart shaped at bluenile.com and found a much better stone:

.90 carat, G color and VS2 clarity for 4356. A white gold plain setting was 320. Its a bit smaller, but a lot cheaper.

The thing about solitaires is that if you get slightly below 1 carat, it is a lot cheaper than exactly 1 carat. Look for the sizes in-between: slightly less than one carat, slightly less than 1.5 carat, etc..

Read the info on Bluenile to get educated on diamonds. Then when you go to a website like Overstock, you'll be able to weed through the rings and find the really good deals.

Again, educate yourself about stones, then once you know that you'll accept xx color and xx clarity and xx cut, start the hunt and the bargaining!

Here's a quick tutorial on diamonds: http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds-education

I was thinking and I need your ladies help since you guys have been great. I was thinking of getting a pink sapphire with diamonds on the side. I love pink!!! and I know pink diamonds are expensive. I would love a pink saphire but I am thinking how reliable is a pink saphire in the long run? Do you think it would make a great e-ring?

^^^^^
On Mohs Hardness score, diamonds receive a 10 (the most scratch-resistant of stones), and sapphires receive a 9. So they're pretty scratch resistant! I think it would make a great engagement ring stone.
