For me, dealing with Hermes is no different than dealing with many other French companies selling rarefied luxuries. As has been amply noted, judiciously applied charm arising from genuine interest goes far.

First, let me apologize for my being cranky :shame:
life is difficult right now and my birthday is approaching which always sends me into a "where is my life going?" rut! :yucky:

now, for Hermes:
i have a nice relationship with 2 SA's at the Beverly Hills store. one i like more than the other because as you may or may not remember, one was being extremely pushy with me while describing how to get my SO to podium through her (YOU MUST BUY BUY BUY!) so it wasn't too pleasant but she is nice and knows me and has remained helpful. We also have a mutual friend.
Anyway, I do understand the rules etc, but the other SA who IS REALLY nice has such a wall up about getting me what i want that i don't even bother asking her anymore. So i have 1 SA who i find pushy but at least she's brought up some options, and another who is sweet as can be and awesome but who acts as if Hermes doesnt even DO SO's anymore. (like, "huh what's that??") between the two i'm having trouble. then there is a nice SA in NYC who i've worked with before but silly me didn't ask for her, i just spoke to a random person about the Jige over the phone. Claude is seriously my best friend at Hermes. :graucho: Manuela would be too if only she weren't so shy.
what upsets me is the inconsistancy, as someone here has already said. i'm a big "revolutionary" and am known to start trouble, but because i truly love the products i will, of course, follow the rules, continue to be gracious, consistant, and buy from the 1 or 2 SA's i know. does not mean i don't get to come here and vent about it!

i do. i have interest in many things. i have a tea set and belts and bracelets and scarves and right now the Jige is making me drool more than a Birkin. My love is real. haha :love:

CB- Goyard coffin just came to me that second but now that i think about it, how fabulous would that be!? :graucho:

GT- Yeah, i'm sure some are regulars. others i read about just walk in from the street. im not sure if it happens in NY and LA as much as the smaller stores, but from what i hear- it definetely happens!

isus- you are right. worth a try and i will surely call back or visit my local store to ask around.

sus- best advice. that seems much more polite and to the point than "don't give me no BS b*tch!":roflmfao:

shopmom- research before raising hell, for sure

mrss- but..i'm a vvip :crybaby:in my own head...;)

ginab- i have been quite understanding of it, at least i think i have. i don't press and i don't get sassy. i smile, nod, i "understand". but i cant help feel upset at how i'm told different things in different places and that a company that is known for special orders and creating fruit baskets made of leather if you have the money to pay, seems so elusive about special orders, kwim? i feel like julia roberts in pretty woman with a wad of cash but snooty SA's shopping on Rodeo Dr. sometimes, but its only at H that i can sometimes feel this way. and i assure you, i don't look like a trashy hooker. a high class hooker, maybe, but never trashy! :graucho:

lady e- i'm quite sincere. i love everything!

aspen- thank you for sympathizing. next time you place a SO stick in a Vert Fonce Jige in croc for me with Raisin interior, please.:drool:

style- that's SO frustrating and exactly what i'm talking about.

rose- i've got my regulars. one is a fortress the other makes me feel inadequate. lol.

atg- hopefully you will have great experiences in person. it really isn't bad. it can be fun and exciting at Hermes. im not at queen bee status there which is off putting since in other boutiqes i frequent, im treated much better, but i love the product and so i put up with it. perhaps one day things will change for me. i hope they start off great for you.

From my experience, SOs are a special thing. They are not like the ones that are just ordered at the podium. An SO is more special and shops have a quota on how much they can SO per season. Then, they have to evaluate, which requests can be placed as SO.

this helps me understand better, thank you.

Thanks La Van. That puts more light on the situation. Still it does not make use deprived of our bags happy ~ maybe that is part of the allure of Hermes in not being able to just walk in an grab what you want. I'd be happy just to get what I want tho. Ha-Ha!

It makes me mad and lessens my respect for the company. A great deal of my affection for Hermes is slipping the more I read comment here.
Im sorry to say, but I agree with this. I love Hermes goods and I own several smaller items and the like. I've had the same treatment in store from certain people and it really does turn me off to the brand.

The games don't make me feel as though Hermes is special and exclusive but rather that it's just snobby. I understand there is a system and I know not to just walk in and demand things. I get it. However, the treatment of customers is just appauling at times.

I can appreciate the history and the quality, but to know that they treat people this way simply because they can is a huge turn off. I know many on this board will disagree, but it's how I feel.

Newbie asking here...but LaVan or anyone: what is the different between SO and podium? And if you can SO, do you pay for it all up front or upon reciept. Can these requests ever be cancelled if it takes them years to fulfill? ie: if my color taste/style change?

Many thanks!

What size/color are you looking for? SCP had a lovely vert anis (well, bright lime green) croc in stock this week...and several others... Hehe...I was surprised to find I quite like the jige! Good luck with your search!
