I know it all boils down to luck and I guess I got lucky in Rome for the second time. That is I was lucky to be offered a bag because I passed on it. :( kicking myself still but I feel I made the right choice. I was looking at another bag when I told the SA that I'm not quite sure if I like it and she asked why and I said I'm hoping to get another bag in Paris. She asked what bag I wanted and I told her I wanted a K32 or K28 in a neutral color. She laughed and said they barely even get any 28s "it is impossible" she said but she smiled and winked at me and told me to wait a second. She went out with a sad face though saying she thought they still had the bag but if I wanted to see the other then she can show me. I said ok and she brought out a bright red (sorry i don't know what the exact color is) k32 but bright reds just don't work on me so i had to say no. I was in shock but so happy to know it is not impossible to get a k in italy!

Good luck to everyone hunting in italy :)

OMG! You are indeed so lucky. May I know which store in Rome that offered you a bag? I went to the via dei condotti last time and saw a kelly on display but it was only for display not for sale. Experiencing Italy, I love going to Florence store the most, very friendly SAs and it makes the whole shopping trip enjoyable. :)

Yes you were VERY lucky! I don't know how long ago this was, but I know that they have recently restricted even more sales of Bs and Ks to walk in customers. But there's no harm in trying....;)

Hi, this was last year in the via de campo marzio (i hope i got the street right) not the one near the spanish steps. :) you're right about the florence store. I really like it and SAs are very friendly! Unfortunately, the last time I went they had almost only canvas bags on display and I was hoping to buy a GP. But it was good cause I stumbled upon the truffle store near by and shopped there instead hahaha

Hermes Rome actually has good stock but is notoriously difficult to buy sought-after bags from, like kellys and birkins. I was considered a "local" since I was a former resident for a few years but they still reserve the better bags and colours for long-time Rome customers or the well connected fashion crowd.

Just curious. Are personal shoppers who charge are notorious for reselling Birkins considered as the well-connected fashion crowd?

I find that the bigger the city and the more fashion forward it is, the more difficult it is to obtain sought after designer items. And specifically for birkins and kellys, Hermes Rome & Milan boutiques are tough to break into for non-regulars - much like H NY, London, Hong Kong, etc...

And like many/most things Italian, there is a hierarchy for who gets what!

Ditto this one, Leah! So which city in Italy is less fashion forward? I'd imagine they would carry less inventory of desirable bags like B/K as well.

MommyArchitect, honestly forget Milan and Rome! H Venice, Florence, Capri attract many tourists so more competition.
Turin is surprisingly well stocked but they also reserve their bags for the wealthy locals so the good bags are usually in the stock room.
Maybe Palermo, Bologna or Napoli would be slightly better in terms of less competition for bags.

Thank you, Leah for the great tip! I will be in Rome most of the time but will try to venture out. Maybe I need a friend from there to help me order one! LOL

After a major disappointment at Paris FSH, I am probably ready for more disappointments but a side of me is even more desperate. However, I refuse to go to a reseller no matter how long the wait is. I don't want to encourage resellers as they are making the availability worse. They sometimes sell at 200% or more, and hogging up all the supplies via some special behind the scene connections. It's no different from black market for real stuff. I'd rather put that extra money back into the H shops.

Both Capri and Napoli are within a fairly easy distance of Rome (quick trip on the A1). Both are really nice destinations with a lot to offer apart from H (The National Archaeological Museum of Napoli is one of my favorite places. And Italian food does not get better than in Campania.). There's no harm in trying but there is a far better chance at getting a B or K in FSH though. Compared to a few years ago it has become more difficult to get bags in all of Europe (France being the exception in my experience. UK and Italy being the most difficult.) even if you are a local with a good buying history (I have lived in the UK, France, Germany and Italy the last couple of years and is where I have "my" boutiques as the one we have in Stockholm is not very well stocked and is much more expensive.).

And I applaud you on the resellers. I think it's an appaling practise and I would not want to spend my hard earned money with them either. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you that your dream bag will end up with you soon, no matter which boutique it comes from.

Bologna is also easy to get to from Rome by train and it is a magnificent medieval city with the oldest university in the world. The Hèrmes boutique is located in the historic city centre. I always recommend a day trip to Bologna to my foreign friends as it is less touristy than Florence, Rome or Venice but it does deliver on the famous Italian charm and beautiful sightseeing. If you need any tips on Bologna, please do not hesitate to pm me.

MommyArchitect, don´t give up, go there and try, it doesn´t hurt to ask. I posted on page 3 on this thread about my experience in buying a k28 from Venice store back in august 2012. Wish you all the luck!
