Roll Call for those of us on a Handbag Ban and why!

Just want to see how many of us here have to put a stop to buying for a small amount of time and Why?

Me...I lost my job last year and have no money to buy a bag with.

Still bought bags with money I don't have with that horrid piece of plastic called a Visa Card over the end of last year. Struggling to pay it off.

* Sigh*

I just want to know I'm not alone!
You are not alone. Fingers crossed that the right one comes along soon.

agree with @papertiger that it’s important to enjoy what we have. I’m in the process of a gut renovation and large furniture purchases, so I’ve made a retail pause pact (concerning personal wardrobe items ) with two friends

I love seeing what you find...but I understand the need to purge. I'm doing that myself...but people are lowballing so much now.
Very true, Narnanz.

But given my admittedly perverse personality, it’s better for any unsuspecting low baller that I don’t offer any of my bags for resale.

Instead I’ve reached out to the various worthy charities in my area to donate the bags I no longer (or very rarely) wear.

Their response has been gratifying while I selfishly take pleasure in knowing that all those impulse purchases I’d made turned out to be (indeed) money well spent. :ghi5:

. I have realised that my lifestyle, ie very casual, chucking bag into footwell of car, constant rain here, will not withstand anything fancy, so I LOVE my Coach navy crossbody. Looking good after 5 years of general abuse. (I do have lots of other bags, and I really appreciate them, but they never come out except on special occasions.)
I see where you're coming from! If you don't use any other bag and you're content with the one you're using (can't imagine why you wouldn't be since Coach is life:heart:) the other bags might seem like excess baggage.
I've seen minimalists that have 2 or 3 bags and that's a lot to take in for me, but one single bag for everything...that's actually an interesting concept.

Should we try - what do you think, people? One bag and a predetermined amount of time when you can only carry that one single bag? Everyone gets to choose the amount of time they want to participate with a bag they've chosen?

Sounds like a great idea, Amazona.

Definitely thread worthy.

❤️❤️❤️

I would love to say I'm not buying but now that my two trusty coach bags and wallet are falling apart ( after a decade or so) and I see my Bvlgari bags aren't as sturdy as I had hoped, I will need to buy some items. However I prefer not to spend a lot but still get good long lasting items that don't need to be babied. Not sure what qualifies for that though

You're not alone, @Narnanz. I just don't want to call it a ban because whenever I've gone on a ban in the past, somehow the opposite happens and I end up breaking the ban spectacularly. So I am just calling it a slow down (fingers crossed).

The truth is, I am a little tired of the constant struggle for space, trying to fit everything into a small closet space. The constant re-shuffling in order to maintain a semblance of order in my closet is wearing me down. Between bags, a huge perfume collection, and many blazers and coats, not to mention jeans and other clothing, my closet is too full. Some things need to go to. But more importantly, less needs to be added. A lot of my bags are not being used much, and this year, I would rather focus my energy on wearing what I already have more often, than trying to chase after new acquisitions and temptations.

I am not really on a bag ban but I would say a mindful pause. I have to admit a new bag gives me a happy rush! I find it’s not a sustained happiness though and of course fades over time.

Since the pandemic I’ve sold, gifted or donated the bags that didn’t suit my needs and weren’t being used. I find selling bags to be a big hassle though and would like not to have to do this much anymore.

I really know what types of bags aren’t going to work for me. I just have to be mindful not to let the beauty or popularity of these bags convince me to buy them!

Kudos to your mindful pause, Mimmy. :ghi5:

I’ve been on a similar journey and am pleasantly surprised at how freeing “less is more” feels. :happydance:

I hard stopped buying bags because when I thought of things that made me happy in 2022 - and I mean _really_ happy in a profound way - bags were not among them. In contrast to that, I realized I devoted too much time and money on bags which started to feel silly to me
A wise person once said, "think how much life this purchase will cost you". The hours you put in, making money to buy a bag can be astronomical. That vs. the happiness factor is a big deal and it's one of the reasons I've been cutting on all purchases lately.
