Rolex: Was it worth it? $$$

I totally get what you mean, and my mother bought one and still uses it BUT I do think “can’t keep time” *is* a valid comment on a watch. It’s not a bracelet... She was rather surprised, post-purchase, when others were like “oh yeah Rolexes are notorious for that”.

For OP: these are uncertain times indeed but you seem to have a limited window for the lower tax purchase, and don’t have kids, so if you truly love it, I’d buy it.
I completely agree with you. It’s absolutely ridiculous to pay such an exorbitant amount for a time piece that does not do what it should do. Otherwise, it’s more of a bracelet. I’ve never heard of not buying a Rolex for it’s time keeping abilities. It’s a watch! If it’s purchased for another reason, it’s purely for show.

Personally I am not a big watch person, they are more of a fashion accessory for me so I enjoy the few watches that I currently own but wouldn’t spend thousands on one. In contrast I love jewellery and have spent (for me) a lot of money in building my collection which I don’t regret at all.

If you have the means and it is something you will love and wear, go for it!

Well, it works with the movement of your wrist so of course it is not exactly precise. How could it be? But you don’t have to wind it up or use batteries and its movement is individual to you (and to the watch in question in my experience). And I love it that it stops when you don’t wear it or when you are so tense that your heart halts, or that it may start running a bit fast when you fall in love. Plus it is still precise enough: does it really matter, one minute more or less? Specially in a world where we all have access to a smart phone with exact time. It makes even more sense, to carry a watch that will last you forever and whose time is only yours.

for me if I was going to buy an expensive watch I wanted a "real" watch, not quartz. I will say the few years to the first service went fast and paying over $500 to service a watch is a lot to me. You can buy a nice quartz watch for less than that. so depends on how much you want it and what your disposable income is.

Mine actually keep pretty good time. I keep them on a winder when not worn and have to adjust them maybe every 3-4 months by a minute or two. For me, they are classic, artful and well made, just like my purses. How long do Apple Watches last before they are obsolete and need replacing for the “latest model”? Every 2-3 years? I’ll stick with my Rolex for timepieces.

I waffled between a Cartier Panthere and a Rolex. I decided on the Rolex which I got yesterday from my hubby. I love it, love it and love it. I do have an Omega which is a nice watch but Omegas and other "high" end brands have ETA in them while the Rolex is a "movement" watch (lol I got this info from research).

Rolex is a nice, understated and elegant watch.

I love my Rolex.

I bought on the pre-loved market and have never regretted it. I was able to tell the watch seller what I wanted and he found it for me. Also, I used money I got when my Momma passed away so it is like a present from her, kinda.

Funny thing--my brother had one for years and stopped wearing it, it needed maintenance and he felt that it cost too much for that. Then he saw me wearing mine and suddenly he got the maintenance done, even bought a watch-winder (after asking if I had one and which one it was).

My reply may be so late but I just wanna say if you have the means to purchase it and you really want to have one, please get sooner rather than later as rolex watch really worths the money It’s a lot of money but really worth it IMO. They are timeless, classic, hold its value well and so beautifulll... I think a Rolex is comparable to a Chanel classic flap, two things that a woman should have :)

I just got the Rolex two-tone Datejust 31 with diamond dials for my 30th birthday and never regret the purchase as I know it will be a beautiful timeless and good investment piece. My hubby gifted for me but even if he did not buy it for me, I will just buy it for myself because it’s so beautiful and makes me happy everytime I see and wear it. He owns few Rolexes and he always says that a Rolex is an asset not an expense

Rolex keeps on increasing the prices every year but not every 6 months. If you really want to have it, better to buy it sooner than later as they will keep on increasing the price. Also, as the time goes it is more difficult to get one as the supply is limited but the demand always exceeds the supply. My SA said popular models such as GMT Master which is sooo difficult (can say impossible) to get now, was easy to get 5 years ago. Even now you must order and wait to get a datejust while years ago you could come to AD and chose the one you like from available stocks.

I don’t have one (as I’ve never worn a watch). However, my husband bought one a year ago or so. Now, he was always dead set against it. Not for a financial purpose (because he’s worked so hard to get where he’s at and should enjoy the fruits of his labor). But he always had a stereotype about them looking flashy. That being said, he had no regrets about it and regularly says how much he loves it and doesn’t know why he didn’t buy one sooner. It doesn’t seem as though there are many that regret the purchase!
