I’m sure this has been discussed many times - but what’s the deal with rock crystal? I think it’s sooo beautiful and I’m starting to plan for my next piece. But is it like Hermes where I have to build a relationship with an SA and get offered? All my purchases have been online, so that won’t help me!

share your RC pics for some eye candy!

Thank you! I knew it had to be here somewhere!

If you are new to this forum, you can do searches and choose "within this forum." There are tons of VCA info to browse through.
There are dedicated threads on turquoise, SOs, Zodiac, BTF rings, etc. You can spend hours researching and finding lots of great info.

I asked my SA about rock crystal and was told to purchase preloved online. I was kind of bummed to hear that response. I don’t think my spend is of an average VCA client but I don’t know would love some opinions.

VCA is definitely not like Hermes. They made a few special items for the 50th anniversary and one was rock crystal and others were lapis and turquoise with pave. Not many were made and not many have been made since then. So the small numbers produced make it unlikely that most people could access one new. There probably are none left which is why your SA suggested purchasing pre-loved. Unfortunately, these items can sell above the original sales price due to the rarity. Plus prices have gone up since they were first introduced.

Sorry, this is going to sound like such a dumb question, but can someone explain to me why Rock Crystal is so sought after (besides the rarity)? In pictures, it just looks like see-through plastic to me. I don't get the hype :confused1:

(I don't mean to offend anyone who has one, it just doesn't look that pretty to me in pics and vids that I've seen, so I wanted to get some feedback from those who have or are looking to own one).

I think we all like different stones (colorful, neutral, striated, porcelain…) or different styles (Alhambra/frivole/butterflies/perlee…) because something about them appeals to us. There would be people who feel strongly on both sides for each of these categories. I am probably the greatest lover of rock crystal on this forum, and in my case I like things that are unusual and unique. I also like the fact that it is a stone that was used in the early days of VCA Alhambra, so there is a historical connection. To me, the look of rock crystal is not like plastic, but instead is very similar to portrait cut diamonds. I will show you a photo of them side-by-side, the diamond is the smaller one.

Nicole - shhhh do not try to increase demand of RC. Let it be known it looks cheap like plastic. (More RC for us haha!).

Hello,
I just came back form 1 of the Van Cleef Store in Paris and the SA mentioned that Rock Crystal version is not even on her access to order... So sad, I was hoping my 1st Van Cleef item is rock crystal.

Enjoy your rock crystal beauties (for those who got it).

Just wanted to share what the SA told me in the Paris store.
Have a nice weekend.

i believe rock crystal is only for VIP. it's not something you can get as your 1st van cleef item.
