Resources for re-selling your bags? Help?

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

To Mods, everyone: I apologize if this is not supposed to be posted/asked. I guess I could also benefit to know where/how do i find out the information i am looking for? Please enlighten me either way.

TPF is my only resource for my bag addiction. Some of my friends share the same love for bags but we never talk about it, except on rare occasion and the usual topic is which bag(s) each of us are trying to have next.

Anyway, I wanted to offload some of my bags, most of them are in PRISTINE condition with some bags NEVER used. Obviously I won't be selling here on TPF, and I also am wary of selling on ebay -- i'm afraid of falling prey to scams and/or a bag swap. I tried to google this but only found advertisements to a plethora of consignment stores or second hand market retailers. While they are an option, i found from past experience they tend to low ball me and see my same bags selling at much higher prices (my bag is in better condition) online. Hence i'm looking for alternative options.

So I want to ask the TPF community, where do you guys go or WHAT do you do when you want to sell any of your bags? (Some brand new bags)? I'm not sure if it would be relevant but for me, it's usually Chanel, Hermes, Celine and Saint Laurent bags.

HELP!

Oops I forgot to say that. I'm in the US! Thank you : )

If you're looking for someone to sell it on your behalf then you might not get the price you're looking for as such companies obviously make their money by taking a cut of the sale (and some of them take a pretty big cut). You have sites such as Yoogis Closet, Fashionphile, Ann's Fabulous Finds. I don't know if Meme's Treasures offer consignment. You can check out all the websites anyway.

If you're looking to sell yourself then obviously eBay has the biggest audience but comes with its own problems.

There's also Poshmark, Tradesy. Have seen several members who have bought from Craigslist. You can also look to join FB selling/advice groups for the specific brands you are looking to offload.

Am sure others will be along with many more options.

I have tried Yoogi's and such but really for my particular bags and condition they just are no offering enough. I would never use Craig list or FB groups as they are shady and I find buyers do not want to pay the price asked for an item (and people say eBay is bad). I mainly sell on eBay as I have had much experience there and receive the most money for my bags. I know a lot of people say eBay is such a hassel but honestly I have not had an issue really and there are ways to set it where you can pick and choose who you want to sell to. Here is the deal with eBay - your description needs to be exact - include what came with the bag if you possibly can - be very very descriptive about any blemishes or imperfections (the littlest thing can cause a return you don't want) - take many descriptive picture preferably the 11 you are allowed and more - pictures need to include date code, made in, corners of bag or any place else where wear is most common. For eBay I think if you are up front about what you are selling and give lots of information and take very good pictures it is really easy.

@Swanky - i did but didn't get what i was looking for. keyword search can sometimes be tricky. apologies if this is a duplicate thread. perhaps we can make a sticky on the topic if it is being asked daily, and allow people to post updates in case people want to share their selling experiences.

@vernis-lover and @CornishMon thanks for sharing your experiences. that's actually very helpful. i'm afraid of ebay as a buyer and therefore as a seller as well. for most of my bags im okay going the re-seller route but i also have a brand new Hermes K32 full set -- i have not even opened the box yet -- gift from hubby but i know i don't like the color. we can return it but i prefer not to as i'm on wait for a bag i want. so maybe it won't be so bad on ebay since it's completely brand new. i was thrown off with lowball offers from resellers!! it's brand new! sheesh

I sell a lot of my personal items on eBay but never anything I’m willing to risk losing. Personally, I take a little less for the comfort of selling to online consignment shops rather than the risk of Ebay. That’s just my personal preference. On the other hand, many people have a had lots of success selling via eBay.

Perhaps you could negotiate a price for the Hermés with Yoogi’s or Fashionphile (or whichever online consignment you’ve tried/prefer). Or are there any local consignment shops near you that specialize in high end items? You may possibly be able to negotiate with them as well (??). Just “thinking outloud”. [emoji848]

Thank you @TNgypsy - i feel the same way, i think for my lower end bags ill do ebay and follow the good advice of being very cautious, clear, with photos etc. For my hermes ill stick to yoogi's or fashionphile... just can't afford to risk those. the peace of mind is more important.

I can highly recommend Ann's Fabulous Finds. I've sold several things through this company and they are amazing; very professional, they answer all of your questions immediately, and you only get paid if/when the item sells, so I think you do get a bit more than if you consign with Fashionphile and others who pay you immediately for the item.

I've never sold anything to Fashionphile but I absolutely love them, and if I wanted to sell something quickly, I'd definitely sell to them.
