I had a very bad experience with Redeluxe and would like to share, in order to hopefully prevent anyone from having the same or similar experience.
I contacted Redeluxe and asked if they would be interested in buying any of my bags from me (they only do buyouts, not consignment). They said they were interested in a few of them, and I sent pictures. They ended up wanting to proceed with purchasing 3 of my bags (an iridescent white caviar chevron mini Chanel coco handle, a Chanel medium iridescent purple classic flap with rainbow hardware from 16C, and a 2015 Hermes Noir Swift GHW K25)
They asked what my price expectations were for them. I told them an amount that I thought was a fair amount for a buyout, but also said I did not know what they would list them for. They came in slightly below the amount I asked for, around $17,000 for all 3 bags. I agreed, and they sent me a docusign agreement.
The contract states: the seller (which is me) owns right and title to the items and the buyer (Redeluxe) desires to buyout the item with the intention of selling it to a third party. The buyer agrees on paying the seller the amount of $17140 upon arrival of the item. Buyer guarantees the payout to up to two business days of delivery. The buyer shall bear all expenses for shipping the buyer items such as shipping cost and shipping responsibilities in case something goes wrong with shipping.
This means that they were not supposed to sell my bags to a third party until the bags were in their possession and they had bought them from me & paid me.
I signed the agreement, and then they sent me 2 shipping labels, one for the 2 Chanel bags and one for the Hermes Kelly. They were prepaid labels, for overnight shipping to be delivered by 10:30 AM the following morning to Redeluxe’s PO Box. They offered to arrange a FEDEX pickup for me, and I said okay. I shipped the bags the following day at around 3 PM, and 5 hours after shipping them, at around 8 PM, I decided I did not want to proceed with selling the Hermes Kelly. At this time, the bag was still in my state, and it had only been 5 hours, so I thought it would be no problem to reroute the shipment and receive the bag back, yet still proceed with the buyout for the 2 Chanel bags.
I immediately DM’d Redeluxe, who typed and deleted their response several times, and finally told me that they had already promised and sold my bag to a client of theirs (and collected payment from said client). They said they had reached out immediately to this client and finalized the deal as soon as I had shipped the bags. They were waiting until I shipped to finalize the deal with their client, which of course they did not clear or mention to me ahead of time or during the process.
I was completely stunned and shocked that they had already sold my bag and collected payment from a client, which is a breach of their contract and therefore, voided the contract.
Also, if I hadn’t told them that I didn’t want to proceed with selling the Kelly, I would have had no idea that they had already breached the contract by selling my bag to a third party before completing the buyout. Even now, I have no idea if this is really the truth or was a fabrication in order to have an excuse to not return the bag to me, because it seems absolutely CRAZY that they would sell my bag and COLLECT PAYMENT from a client before they had even seen my bag in person. Redeluxe hadn’t even received my bag yet. It hadn’t been authenticated, let alone even looked at in person. It could’ve been in worse condition than I described and showed. I could’ve mailed them an empty box, or a replica. The contents of the boxes could’ve potentially been stolen or damaged during shipment. And the most important factor, I was not paid out yet. I just could not believe they would collect payment from a client at this point in time. It is incredibly reckless, and there was no communication or transparency at all that they were already going to be attempting to sell my bags to their clients before the deal was complete. That is a direct violation of their own contract.
Redeluxe absolutely refused to reroute the shipment, or return my bag to me, but they said they would have been more than happy to have returned it no questions asked if they hadn’t already sold it to a client. They said they were obligated to their client, and could not cancel or back out of a sale with their client. I felt like they were prioritizing their client, that they had irresponsibly and prematurely collected money from, over me. I was also very confused, because I kept wondering - what was Redeluxe’s plan if something went wrong with the shipment, or if the bag had ended up being a replica or arrived in worse condition than I described/showed in pictures - they would then have to cancel the sale with their client and refund their client anyway. It seemed incredibly backwards. They also claimed the client “of course” understood that the bag still had to be authenticated before it was shipped.
Then, they tried to placate me by offering to give me a higher quote for one of the Chanel bags, since I had found the authenticity card which I told them at the time of the quote I was unsure of its whereabouts and if I would be able to include it in the shipment.
Redeluxe said they would reach out their client and get back to me in the morning to let me know if their client would let the bag go. I told them that I was extremely emotionally distressed, and was crying and totally shocked that they had sold my bag already before authenticating it or even receiving the shipment, and I even offered to pay for return shipping, and I also offered to even PAY the client and Redeluxe in order to get my bag back. Redeluxe said again that there was nothing they could do, except talk to their client to discuss if the client would let the bag go.
I had a feeling that Redeluxe would not return the bag back to me, and I knew that I had to take the matter into my own hands, since they had already breached the contract which therefore made it void. I stayed up all night, attempting to contact FEDEX to stop the shipment and reroute it back to me. Finally, I was able to get through to FEDEX and put a stop on the shipment just in time before it was delivered to their PO Box.
In the morning, Redeluxe messaged me and told me that the client absolutely refused to let my bag go, even despite the offer of payment, and there was nothing that Redeluxe could do. There was no more mention of adjusting the buyout quote which they had offered previously, and instead they proceeded with offering me a $75 coupon for the next time I shop with them at their store. This felt like a slap in the face, as $75 is only 1% off most of the items in their store. ONE. PERCENT.
At this point I was absolutely livid, but very grateful that I had already been in contact with FEDEX and that the packages were on their way back to me. Redeluxe noticed several hours later that I had cancelled the shipments, and were upset but “had no hard feelings”. They said I broke the contract without their consent (which is incredibly ironic, as they sold my bag without my consent), and were not happy that they had to eat the fees from canceling their client’s payment. They then demanded that I pay for the shipping costs of both sending the bags to them and then the costs of the return shipping, which amounts to around $400.
Redeluxe breached their own contract first, by selling my bag without my consent or knowledge at a point in time in which the bag was still my property (pretty sure that qualifies as an actual crime), before the bag arrived to their PO Box, and before finalizing the buyout with me, at which point the contract was void. At that point, since the contract was void, I was free to stop the shipments and reroute them back to me. In addition, the fact that they said they would’ve been happy to send my bag back to me if it hadn't already been sold to a client, and that they offered to increase the buyout quote, tells me that they have no problems going back on or altering their own agreement, per their own whims.
I did not give Redeluxe permission or consent for them to sell my property while it was still my property. They were supposed to sell it only after it became their property, ie after I was paid out. They also likely showed my own personal private pictures of my bags and home that I sent to Redeluxe in confidence, in order to sell my bag. They couldn’t even wait the 17 hours it would have taken for them to receive my bags in their own hands. Their agreement also states that Redeluxe is responsible for all shipping costs, even if anything goes wrong, so they have no right to ask me to pay for their shipping fees. I gave them a chance to accept my offer of paying for the return shipping, but they refused that the night prior.
I ended up receiving my packages and my bags back today, no thanks at all to Redeluxe.
Prior to this situation, I thought Redeluxe was a good company with nice, kind people - although they sell their items for crazy high premiums.
However, it is now clear to me that Redeluxe has no idea how to actually run a business, and that they do not care if they violate legal codes, or their own contract.
I would avoid these people at all costs.
