Resellers getting Chanel items first and selling for premium

Not everyone has the financial resources to buy expensive bags AND clothing, shoes, cars, jewelry, etc. Some people have to pick and chose one or the other, or a couple of things from the list to focus on. Personally, if I had to pick between buying expensive bags or expensive clothing I would focus on bags. Even high quality, expensive clothing will wear out quicker than a bag will (if taken care of properly). You don't have to spend a lot on clothing to look put together and look good.
Ofcourse! I was just referencing the way that CWC tends to speak about her own wardrobe to justify her bags.

I know you dont have to spend $$$ for quality, however I would definitely sideeye someone wearing tattered clothing items with a Birkin, Lol.

I was reading this thread with some interest as I know nothing about Facebook sellers; influencers; you tube; disputes with consignors etc etc. Its all very interesting.

said it's not hard to find a price within a budget meaning below retail.
Right now demand is more than supply, but that can change at any time.

IMO the prices are cyclical. chanel retail bag prices rise; reseller bag prices rise; the demand falls off (buyers move to Hermes —I did in 2008; prices level off; rinse, repeat. Last year, when no one was shopping, I bought a preloved black barenia B30, Phw for 7K and a boutique so black mini chevron reissue for retail (I think about 4K plus). Of course, coveted sizes, color, styles, in NIB condition command the highest premium, but if someone wishes to compromise on any of the above, there are many deals. it’s in the timing.

I think it’s human nature for resellers to want to cash in. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to buy. IMO brands have to say that they abhor resellers and disdain influencers, but some of the above may be responsible for a lot of profit to the boutique and also fuel aspirational shoppers who buy chanel cosmetics, sunglasses, and cheaper items. And, chanel probably doesn’t rally care about a customer who only buys one or two bags a year. They want the cust8mer who buys RTW + every season, six times a year. The favt that an individual bag shopper cannot get a coveted mini is not just due to resellers, but the new business model, taken from Hermes, that artificially constrains supply. (Luxury watch companies doe this to an even greater extent. One cannot buy a coveted model, like a PP green face nautilus or an Alange SS Odysseus, unless one has already been established as a current client of the house and has waited a requisite amount of time.

If I just bought a Birkin, I wouldnt be worried about a new tote or speedy 25

I buy Birkins, both boutique and resale, mainly the B30, so I never had to deal with the highs or lows of prices of B25s or B35s. I’ve only paid higher than retail once for a bag and it was for my mothers 75th birthday: a 30B craie, ghw, Togo, but I was in a rush and while it was higher than retail, it wasn’t crazy.

I’m still interested in other bags (for the most part, not LV) but certainly other brands ranging from Dior to Loewe. I love Goyard St. Louis totes and have had good luck with them. . My latest bag is a custom, hand stitched from Duret.com. IMO the Birkin is not the end all be all.

I would definitely sideeye someone wearing tattered clothing items with a Birkin, Lol.

I'm 53, 5’2”, I’m medium build. I wear a lot of premier RTW, but I’ve always liked the aesthetic of ‘tattered clothing’ with high end bags. i Think a favorite old t shirt, jeans and a birkin can be very fashionable, but it looks best if one is slim.

JMO

Well there's a difference imo between tattered clothing (which sounds worn out, unintentionally ripped, etc?) and wearing inexpensive, quality clothing that still looks good (although of course looking good is subjective - you can easily look HORRIBLE and "cheap" even in expensive designer clothes).

Personally I have no issue wearing clothes from, say, Target or H&M paired with my Birkin, Kelly, or Chanel classic flap. Of course I also like wearing designer clothing, but I don't have an entire wardrobe full of designer clothing nor would I want to, honestly. I think an Hermes or Chanel bag elevates any look, and at times I actually really like the juxtaposition.

I'm not defending CWC, but I think it makes sense for someone that doesn't have a seemingly infinite amount of funds to wear a Birkin with inexpensive clothing. If you aren't spending hundreds or thousands on simple pieces like cardigans and sweaters, then you can put that money towards other things, like a Birkin. It all depends on what you love and value most in your wardrobe. Some people definitely would value and prefer to put their money towards designer clothing than a bag, some would prefer bags instead of designer clothing, and some would rather have a mix of the two. To each their own!

Yeah thats true..however CWC clearly isnt struggling to purchase her bags, Lol.

I think balance is important, and if youre gonna spend that much on the latest designer bags…a quality wardrobe is somewhat important.

I mean it might as well be, Lol.

You never know what's going on behind the scenes. Some people look like they have no problems living a lavish lifestyle, and really have mountains of credit card debt eating them alive and are living paycheck to paycheck. Maybe she really cannot afford expensive clothing in addition to the bags.

I understand your perspective though, which is that it would be better in your opinion to have a balance of clothing AND bags. She could cut down her bag collection by half and put those funds towards clothing. But I guess she doesn't want to.

She won’t do that. She can’t resell her expensive clothes over the retail just like how she resells her least used bags or unused hyped bags :))

I do that same, even if it’s with Chanel … maybe LV is changing their prices and pricing their canvas pieces closer to their leather pieces so they could erase the image of their bags being carried by women with two day unwashed hair and tattered H&M T-shirts’ and jeans?

Even if I wear affordable clothing with my luxury bags, I try to look as put together as possible. I don’t want people thinking that I throw money on expensive bags but can’t afford myself more important things like good quality shoes, clothing and even furniture.

I recall a certain YouTuber that buys expensive Chanel and Hermès bags but always films her house and her furniture looks so thrifted and old.

Some people with luxury pieces don’t have their priorities right.

I don’t know her personally but I love her YouTube channel. Her videos are high quality and beautiful and probably take a lot of time, I think it’s fair that she’s compensated for that time and if she has to throw in a product promotion to get paid it costs me nothing and benefits me that i get to see more content from her and it’s easy enough to skip ahead. ☺
Her videos are very beautiful shot but lately I feel there is no topic in these video.. it’s repeat of her updates in house, vacation n going into nyc for a day..
I do 100% agree with you. Alyssa is making a living posting YouTube content n she needs sponsorships on these videos in order to get paid. However there are tasteful ways of sharing contents with sponsorship instead of endlessly posting n sharing sponsorship on every platform. I sometimes wonder if her fiancé is force to participate in these videos just to help her attract more viewers How many times can I see hauls from Artizia, Farfetch, Hermes and amazing scores on vintage pieces of Cartier/Chanel.
taking example Sophie Shohet videos. Her videos are very nice quality and she presents the sponsorship in a spontaneity and tastefully. It does not turn me off when I view her videos when it’s part of sponsorship
Most of her shopping content does makes a viewer feel they are part of her shopping experience and you are enjoying the shopping experience with her

The main difference between Sophie and Alyssa is that Sophie is an entrepreneur and does youtube as a hobby ! Alyssa on the other hand does content creation as her job !

Yeahhhh…idk maybe im being nitpicky but I feel like if anyone is dropping $20k+ in handbags (in less than a year) for content…your wardrobe should atleast match.

I agree it should match, but that doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot on the clothes themselves. It’s the style that matters. You can’t expect that just because you have a $10k bag on, you look great. Your Chanel flap or birkin will not carry your look for you. I’ve seen so many people in head to toe designer that look tacky and cheap. Just because someone spends money on clothes doesn’t mean they look good. And of course people in cheap clothes who still look cheap is also bad. As the cliche goes, you can’t buy class or style.

thats why I like youtubers like karenbritchick who has a couple of Kellys and Chanel, but her channel is about the whole look. And she mixes tons of vintage and no-name with modern and designer pieces. That makes for great style and an interesting channel instead of spending thousands of dollars unboxing a designer bag every week and still having unimpressive style. That’s just a waste of money in my opinion.

I thought this was in the YouTube thread, oops!

Yes thats what I meant…CWC never gives us a “whole look” ..Lol.

Expensive bags definitely dont make an outfit.

totally agree! I remember seeing some photos of her with her birkin and I didn’t think she looked like someone who had on an over $10k outfit. Looked ordinary and boring. She is not the only one guilty of this though, so many other luxury youtubers are. Gotta balance it out and think of the whole look!

Thank goodness I’m not looking for validation by posting “content”.
I happily carry my pricey bags with my gym shorts and sneaks all the time, carefree of anyone judging me for not spending the same on my clothes.
I’m comfy and happy!!

Yeah different strokes for different folks. I know alot of us pick and choose our splurges.

These lux Youtubers seem to go overboard though.
