Resellers getting Chanel items first and selling for premium

This is 100% my feeling too. No one bag or color is so amazing or special that I can't live without it. Something nicer will always come along and I'll like it just as much. There is no unicorn for me. I have no need for a personal shopper for that reason, and the Chanel quality has gone down so badly in recent years that their bags aren't worth the personal shopper fee to me.

You mentioned a good point. I saw a few posts about the 21p caramel mini's straps being all twisty. Also saw a few posts of people finding black dots on the caramel 19s and the classic flaps apparently due to inadequate dyeing of the leather. Same black dots are on the golden ones from this season. I dont have a lot of bags to rotate through. If I am buying a luxury bag then I will use very often. If I am paying 1000s of dollars, I should expect no issues.

Very off topic and this designer forum but YSL has a similar dark beige bag in envelope bag in medium and large. The color is very similar to caramel. I heard YSL bags are much nicer quality and the bag is less than half the cost. Neiman Marcus has it in stock. Even though it is listed as back ordered but I am getting mine in a few days. It is stuck in Texas right now. If anyone is interested, PM me and I can send link of the bag and also send pictures of it once I receive it. I cant wait to see it in person! No comparison with Chanel and YSL has poor resale value but thought to share...

That makes sense. I actually think Chanel wants to try and remain elusive by not making their items easy to buy (eg., no online sales of bags), but the problem is these PS/Resellers/Influencers/Youtubers buy in hoards and then post about it and flip the bags for a profit, that has made Chanel easier to get so the opposite of their goal is happening! It's also made Chanel feel less special to see it everywhere online. It should be the reverse, we should see them in the boutique and not all over social media!
Agreed!! Resellers/PS have made it easier for any one to buy anywhere in the world!

Chanel does not have a global pricing, so i think many reach out to Personal shoppers because it is still cheaper to buy i Europe or US compared to current retail in some countries (compared to Australia as an example)

So true, people seem to get serious FOMO about the bags when there is such a frenzy created, also by the resellers. But the excitement doesn't last, a lot of the bags are put up for sale after a short time on sites like fashionphile and Chanel groups, prices also get lowered when they don't sell. There seems to be a lot of mindless consumerism with such expensive items.
Yes, I totally agree with this. There will always be another caramel or light pink bag coming. It does seem like Chanel has also started repeating them more often, with caramel in both 21P and 21A for example. Plus, you never know what will happen in the future. I saw today that those dangly button CC earrings are now part of the permanent collection, so getting them from the boutique shouldn't be that difficult in the future, and people were paying over $1000 for them as of late.

What's going on with Chanel bags right now seems similar to a lot of the other "bubbles" going on right now - whether it's sports cards or Gamestop stock or dog-inspired cryptocurrencies. People see that there's a certain willingness to pay and pile in, driving the prices higher and higher while hoping to make a quick buck themselves. I wouldn't be shocked if some of the resellers themselves paid a premium for some of these bags, hoping to flip them again at an even higher price- and then end up getting burned when demand eventually softens.

I will just go without the bag if I can't get it form the boutique. There will always be another "unicorn." Every time I've stepped into a Paris Chanel Boutique, there are always multiple items that I love.
I agree with this. I refuse to pay over retail for a Chanel bag as they always consistently offer unicorns in every collection it seems. I just live without it and get the next 'pretty' bag. When I think about the craziness of the 21P collection, everyone wanted the gold metallic lambskin and the caramel lambskin bag, I thought it simply isn't worth it to hunt and chase after it. As one TPF member put it, when did this become a job?

I think people are willing to pay above retail because they think whatever price they paid to a reseller/PS eventually Chanel will charge that much for the bag in their boutiques.
Chanel can also see that websites like Fashionphile are over charging for bags that can be purchased in store. They also can see people are STLL willing to buy them therefore as a business there's probable cause for constantly raising the price.

The situation seems to be coming to a climax
-Customers are frustrated with what is going on
-Resellers seem to have taken over reserve/waitlists
-Chanel seems unresponsive and there's a lack of customer service around this whole situation

Anyone have an opinion on how this will all pan out over the next 6months to a 1yr?

From a customer perspective, it's awfully frustrating. From Chanel's perspective though, I imagine, it's great. The illusion of extreme scarcity being caused by the resellers creates frantic customers and only increases the perceived value of the brand, hence why people are suddenly willing to purchase a brand new "sold out" bag for up to 50% more on top of the original price. Suddenly Chanel's products are on par with Hermes' Birkin in terms of rarity. Now if you work hard for it or you're lucky, you can snatch the bag you want first hand.

How sad !? More than 10????

See this is something I don't understand. This seller is in the store pretty much every day showing what they have and what she can get for clients. How is she (as one person) able to get so many of the same item in one single location? She's located in Tokyo, does anyone know a SA there and can ask about this?
