Resellers getting Chanel items first and selling for premium

There are some cities or even countries where there is no Chanel boutique and people rely on PS to get their dream bag. I do feel there is a need for genuine and ethical PS but obviously not resellers-as @gail13 explained, there is a difference.

I mean if you can afford the bag you can likely afford luxury travel. Go to Paris and make getting a bag a memory. I do not think the majority of people need to resort to resellers or shoppers. They may choose to because they have to have the hottest and newest item at that moment.

Thats OK and I Understand that. I did not start this business with the intention that everyone should need to use a personal shopper for each purchase.
Hi Gail- thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts as a personal shopper. It certainly gives insight into the personal shopping world! Based off what I read in your initial message, does this mean that legit personal shoppers do not have an “inventory” of new handbags? Or if they do keep an inventory, it’s for used bags put up for consignment?
I have a hard time understanding the difference between a reseller and a shopper but can see your point if you are only reaching out to Chanel to place an order ONLY if a customer specifically requests it and you are added to the waiting list in the order the boutique receives the request....and not taking up a reserve spot (in the hopes of selling that bag to a customer soon) that another customer could otherwise take. I don’t believe shoppers or resellers should have an “inventory” or a slew of new handbags coming in for selling. (Used/preloved is different in my mind). They (shoppers and resellers) shouldn’t be getting on multiple wait lists at boutiques/department stores for items they think are going to be a hit or will become “unicorns”. Even with purchase limits, my understanding is that shoppers/resellers can get on reserve lists for each department store + boutique since the systems do not talk to each other. Theoretically one shopper/reseller could get 6 of the same bags or more (Nordstrom, Neiman, Saks, BG, Bloomingdales, boutique). Even more so if they have a network of friends and family that can procure reserve spots too. Not to mention, can someone create multiple profiles? It’s not like your drivers license is attached to a profile so if you have multiple email addresses, shipping addresses, and credit cards...then one person could get an endless slew of products?

it is incredibly disheartening and can see previous posters’ point about one bad apple ruining it for others. I never really had an issue getting an item from Chanel before 21P but this whole season has really made me angry.

Everyone does things differently. I think you need to ask....for myself I do not have an inventory of items. I locate them from the Boutiques. People often ask me "do you have" and my response always is "I need to source it for you". I am not associated with any of the brands I source but I have knowledge of many brands. After sourcing items for many years my clients started to ask me to sell their bags on consignment.

Items are supposed to be sold to a buyers profile where address and CC info match. All the reasons you list are why Chanel decided to take back control and own all the stores now -even in the dept stores. They wanted more control.

You can be mad at resellers but I also am seeing more people buying one to keep one to sell, -I saw that with the Rainbow Mini's, the Ivory Mini and it will happen with other in demand bags. Alot of people are buying to sell, where do you draw the line? I believe Chanel does it's best and they don't like it. I see more and more things coming in from overseas.

??? so they should travel abroad to get a bag that may or may not be in stock? During a pandemic? What a weird thing to suggest.

This is happening way too often. People are using these bags to fund their purchases as well.

I've read through your posts and just wanted to say that I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and your perspective as a personal shopper. What I most appreciate is your professionalism in your posts and respectfully sharing your perspective. I realize this is a polarizing topic and some people feel very strongly about whether or not to use a PS. There is some anger in this thread directed towards the general population of resellers and/or personal shoppers. Specifically, those that are preventing others from getting their dream bag(s) without having to pay $1500 or more over retail from the price gouging that is going on. I am always interested in hearing and understanding different perspectives.

I agree with Gail. I’ve seen the coveted 21p brown 19 bags for sale on eBay for ridiculous prices which means that this issue is not just limited to PS or resellers. It makes me so mad too since this is a bag I am currently on the waitlist for. This bag is selling for $8200. The lister also included a copy of the receipt so I reported this to Chanel. As for Gail, she has helped me find highlights my sought after items. I always get the receipt, purchased in my name. She recently helped me find the bronze dad sandals which were too small and worked to locate me another pair in the right size. Her fees are reasonable and her service impeccable. I don’t have any issues with using a personal shopper like Gail who is honest and trustworthy and I disagree that because of a few bad apples, all PS are are off limits.

The pandemic has definitely made these IG resellers explode. Because people are stuck at home they get hyped up about missing out on all the "must have unicorn" bags and pay these ridiculous prices.

I started following a lot of resellers and fb groups this past fall because I was looking for a very specific item/color and wanted to know exactly what will be released. Now I'll hopefully be able to get it with 21S and then I'll unfollow all these people and groups, the energy is so toxic.

By following the releases so closely I noticed how replaceable the "unicorn" bags are. Iridescent ivory and the mermaid mini were all the rage and by now they're old news and people are waiting for the new releases. That's the energy that drives the resale market. It turns me off so much and I don't want to start disliking my beautiful Chanel items over this but it's truly off-putting.

Chanel really needs to put an end to these resellers.

I noticed not just resellers but lately people I follow on insta for their genuine love of bags & content, those who have significant followers have started accumulating bags / SLGs etc and are selling with fees added on top. I mean to each their own but it is off putting, milking the system to their advantage. They then build relation with their SA for being regulars thus getting hot items again next season and so on. Not to forget gifts etc on top from their SAs. Hmmm it’s a vicious cycle.

I agree, honestly it has even happened here. Receiving messages on here or Reddit or social media with “hey I know you want this bag I have an extra” really bothers me. It’s like everyone has decided to buy into the reseller game even if that’s not their intent. It just leaves less people the ability to experience it the way they should. It shouldn’t be an Olympic sport to get a bag.
