This is mindblowing to me! Just 3 years ago, in 2018, you could buy small and medium classic flaps in rare, unique, coveted colors in pristine condition, full set, for around $2900 on FP. Seriously. I have the receipts.

Who would've ever thought in just 3 years the prices would've increased to $8000 - $10,000 for a medium classic flap on FP.

Completely agree. Don’t even get me started on the highly sought after colors now breaking 10k. I’ve been following 3 bags in particular that they actually reduced down to 20% and today they took them offline and then within a few hours reposted them to even higher than they first started out at a few weeks ago. You can definitely see the panic buying mode going into effect on there...small/medium flaps are flying off the site now ... or maybe again it’s FP and we will see them reposted tomorrow higher priced.

Pulled out some old receipts a few days ago... man the days of $4000 maxi flaps are long gone

I have been watching "following" several bags on FP for a few weeks now. Several small/medium chanel double flaps. FP is now taking them down and re-listing them at higher prices since I guess everyone now knows about the July 1 impending price increase. They are now listing "excellent" condition medium double flaps around $8200. :yucky:

Their rating of the condition of items annoys me beyond belief. Bags are one thing so a scratch here or there constituting an "excellent" vs. "very good" is one thing, but when a stone is missing from jewelry and this is NOT disclosed in the listing, that is ridiculous. Sometimes I Follow an inflated bag just to sit back and watch how much they have to discount it. :blah:

In 2018 I got an excellent cf beige single flap jumbo ghw for just $1500

Well, now with impending price increase on July 1st, I see so many people saying how they're just going for vintage.. and this will of course increase the already inflated prices of vintage pieces as well..

I can't imagine vintage pieces getting to the point of 7-8k.
Oh they are salivating at the mouth right now! A reseller (vintage and new) posted to buy now because come the price increase their prices are going up too! I seriously can’t with this.

i see this happening on FP- I have been watching a few bags like a hawk, and they are due to drop to 30%- and none of them are...all discount drops are holding off? I am sick of this game!

I saw a vintage Sakura pink medium classic flap for $7500 today. Why anyone will pay so much for a 20+ year old bag is beyond me.

Do you all think the craze will die down in another year or two and prices will drop back down to more reasonable amounts? I too, miss the days of finding great deals on Fashionphile. Kicking myself for not buying a classic flap last year!

Honestly, probably not. I can't see this every reversing unless maybe a major market crash but geez we thought the pandemic would have driven pricing down and it did just the opposite.. who knows anymore truly haha

I kinda think it will… I think people are coming out of quarantine and want to go all out “peacocking” and they’ll eventually calm down. But if Chanel starts to be in the same price range as Hermès, I think I know which one most people would prefer….

It's really funny you mention Hermes because I was just browsing on FP an there are several Very Good Birkins in the 8-11 price range... similar to what they are asking for most of their M/L classic flaps now. That is when I think the reality of this price increase really hit me. Birkin 35 or classic flap... I know my choice!

Ok I thought many times about posting this or not. I just hid her IG name. I don’t want to seem “hating on her” because I follow her on IG and she seems a genuine collector of luxury items and she’s not the type to me to buy and resell but this post turned me off. Why sell for a fee? Why not just return it and give someone else a chance to get it for the price it retails for. Just tell them where you’re returning it and call SA or something. This is just giving me the bad feels. Sorry I had to post because I think this is how it starts. Influencers, YouTubers, or whoever buys something and doesn’t like it or doesn’t need it and will sell for a higher price or in this case “small fee”. Again I don’t mean to hate or call her out but this is just off to me. What do you think?

I really don’t think so.

I think Chanel has made a conscious decision to raise prices by at least $1000 annually and are trying to price some people out of the brand. I think they also see what people are willing to pay on the preloved market and premiums from resellers and figure why not raise prices then. Clearly people are willing to pay it.

Also, I think they are trying to make it harder for people to flip bags / resell. Right now on the high end in the resell market I’ve seen medium classics upwards of 10k, sometimes 12k for a super coveted color. If retail ends up being that price, how high will resell go? 15k? That’s unsustainable.

After this latest increase happens, it will mean that the medium classic flap increased in price by $1300 this year alone (for “regular” hardware - $1600 for special hardware).

If that happens again next year, medium classics will be over $9,000.

And all it takes after that is one more year to exceed $10,000 for a medium classic.

That is what I predict. I really think they want to get to 10k. I don’t think they will stop there, but maybe slow down a bit…?

Imagine if they don’t slow down though, and prices continue to increase by $1000 a year indefinitely. Medium classics could realistically, based on the current rate of price increases, end up being $20,000 in ten years.
