Resellers getting Chanel items first and selling for premium

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

I just had a ps confirm to me that they are still getting advance pictures, videos of all types of merchandise including limited edition before it hits the selling floor. The purchased merchandise for department store and boutiques the upcoming launch for the spring/summer 2022 collection this ps will have this information also. I thought Chanel did a major crackdown on this type of practice.

There are 8 of the 21K silver glitter CFs on FP and my SA could not find me one. The prices :eek::eek:

For what it’s worth, I think they’ll all end up further discounted. I “followed” a brand new 21k lilac medium classic flap that was originally priced over $10k on FP and it got discounted to under $8k this week. It was sold within a minute though. So I think it is possible to get a deal, though I agree it’s sad that FP is getting all these bags and marking them up

Oh good to know! I will follow them all. But yup so ridiculous..

Total speculation.
Some times I think fp takes down the listing as sold and puts it back up if a lot of people clicked on it and they don't want to sell it at a discounted price. Creates the feeling of fomo so that it is purchased when they put it back up later.

For what it’s worth, Chanel is cracking down. My SA says all their phones are monitored and they have specific rules for how to share photos with clients. Like one bag per photo, can’t have multiple bags in clusters. I don’t know if this is a recent thing, but if there are pictures floating around in the internet by the SAs, then theoretically the brand can figure out who sent them to who. I think almost every SA I text with has their Chanel email in the Apple ID. It’s a rule to include them in order to text. It’s all monitored

Funny I had a Sa from the stand alone boutique send me what that store ordered rtw, footwear, accessories, slgs by pictures and I can tell from the date that those pictures was taken at least a month before the launch 22P dropped. Second stand alone boutique the employee and manager allowed me to see various pictures on their phone. The manager let me take a picture of one of the items I was interested in. Saks fifth Ave NYC doesn't seem to forthcoming of showing the lookbook but Saks in CT handed me the book and I took multiple pictures of the items I was interested in.
Again there's different rules for different stores according to locations.

I question if the high increases in prices of Chanel bags and homes in desirable areas are a reflexion of stock market gains in general but especially in certain stocks and/or gains in crypto monies. Another market gone coo-coo in just the last year is for mega yachts costing hundreds of millions. If you can buy a "normal" yacht for WAY under a hundred or even five million, then surely you have $$$ to throw at some extra homes; and the cost of Chanel bags for your wife/girlfriend/mistress(es) is chump change.

If you can provide proof of the transaction from receipt screenshots and have an idea of the resellers name then my advice would be to report directly to Chanel. You can contact corporate directly through the website or you could call the boutique and give them the details that way. Items are becoming increasingly scarce nowadays so the fewer resellers the better.

A family friend is an SA for Hermes in London and she said that the resellers are always the first to join the waiting lists and are usually contacting several SAs across various boutiques often charming, patient and use sophisticated techniques to trick the system- it’s easy to assume they are genuine customers. They are constantly changing their WhatsApp profile pictures and using multi phone numbers and email addresses because they know that’s how brands can track their purchase history. They play the system because it is their profession, they are prolific because their actions effectively push demand towards their own business model.

I’m not sure what the answer is because many luxury items are now a tradable commodity- some people are willing to pay a premium just to have key pieces without the hassle of sourcing themselves. Most of the reseller Instagram accounts will have multiple people purchasing on their behalf, family and friends which make it even harder to control Especially if they are paying in cash or with contactless payments.

Do these resellers also pay tax on their profits? Can you declare a Chanel bag or Birkin as an expense Because if they are a tax deductible that’s also another reason demand is so high.

Is reporting a reseller to Chanel corporate is really going to stop this person when they have various friends and family purchasing under different accounts for them? My issue is when the buy is made for the store or boutique only employees have access to this information. Right here is the problem when resellers and ps gets this information before the launch and purchase up through different accounts all the popular items. To me Chanel needs to be more stringent on pre-orders with deposits and track and tracing high purchasing accounts to see if certain repeat items are continously being purchased from one launch to the next. As advanced as technology is today I'm almost sure there's a program that could be implemented that would flag certain accounts by shopping patterns, shipping addresses, credit card information etc...To me its the merchant that needs to be held responsible of how their product should be distributed at boutiques and retail outlets.

I believe in some ways companies with sole reliance on algorithms and data analysis are only going to make reselling easier for the professionals, especially in large cities with multiple boutiques. If staff must base their ‘transaction compliance’ metrics solely on the personal information of the client in front of them it could leave the process open to manipulation.

Asking the client for ID, sure here’s my passport, sure here’s my drivers licence, here’s my ID card combine this with various email addresses and a payment in cash, Wechat, Alipay, Applepay and it suddenly becomes very easy to play the system and have several various accounts with their own purchase quota.

Ending this is more or less impossible without offending certain demographics and risking the ‘luxury’ shopping experience becoming unfriendly and divisive - whilst failing to act also risks stores being empty of key products and staff being placed in difficult situations with clients that are angry resellers are beating them to it.

This is so ridiculous to see so many bags on these resale sites and all I see are members on this forum saying they can’t get their hands on a particular bag or customer service is saying bags are sold out. Yet there are new (giftable condition even) ones on FP and other IG sites.
