Resellers getting Chanel items first and selling for premium

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

I see more and more 21K items pop up on resale websites. As someone said it has to be significantly over retail as to break even with the commission. I think a lot of people buy things they don't really need/want or overspend and once reality sinks in they try to get rid of them. That's what happens when such a hype is created, but the truth is that the next hype is just around the corner and your items become somewhat old news. People should buy only what they truly like and not because of some online frenzy.

I believe some people don't want to return to not upset their SAs and keep up their purchase history. Also returns vary by country, some don't offer generous return policies.

I'm sure this happens, especially when you consider that by returning an item their chance of scoring the next unicorn goes down dramatically... but the amount of brand new items on FP honestly leaves me doubting that they don't do some sourcing themselves. Yoogi's and other websites don't have nearly the same level of brand new items, how is FP getting all of the impulse shoppers?

Oh of course, I'm not questioning this at all. It's wild out there, but I see 22K on different resale sites with high commission, the sellers will hardly all make a (large) profit.

I bought my first 3 bags from resellers as that was all that was really available to me, as someone newly interested in Chanel during the pandemic with no boutique history, and interested in the hard-to-find bags I was seeing on Instagram and the Facebook groups. It wasn’t until I was able to go into a boutique and establish a relationship with an SA, and experience the joy of paying retail price that I stopped buying from resellers. Although it’s still tempting for past season items, but the bar is higher now.

I don’t understand why people would ever pay over retail for items from resellers? I’ve noticed one of the FB groups has started to slowly adopt finders fees and is trying to normalise this behaviour which is frustrating.

I'm just a little curious and trying to understand the resellers market. Due to the impending Chanel price increase, I see quite a number of resellers posting on their page convincing buyers to "quickly buy the bag they have on sale now or regret forever" because once the price increase happens in boutique in Nov, they will increase their prices as well. However, did they not procure their current stock at current price and therefore, their current stocks shouldn't be affected by the price increase yet? I mean I would sort of understand them increasing their prices if they procure the bags at boutique at the Nov's price.....

Do people really fall for these panic buying messages?

That's why sales are becoming slower at reseller's market right now. People are smarting up and refusing more
