Does the vegetable tanned leather scratch easily?

It does, but the scratches easily buff out. I wore it for the first time yesterday and had no problems, but I’m very gentle with my bags and made sure it didn’t rub against my clothing too roughly. The bag came with some minor scratches when I purchased it, but that’s part of the character of vegetable tanned leather. It will last forever and develop a warm patina with time.

Another +1 for Roots. I just bought one of the last vegetable tanned leather English saddle bags from my vacation to Montreal last week and the leather is exceptional! I also own an Edie tribe leather bag and have been using it regularly for the past two years and it looks better each day! The patina it’s developing is incredible!

I could show Roots bags that exceed a decade in age. The veg tan is definitely a neat twist, i have a wallet like item done it...

I’d love to see some photos! I never see Roots in the US, which is why it appeals to me so much. Exceptional leather, uniqueness, and rarity make it even more appealing. I wonder how many of each bag they produce in each type of limited run leather. I had been eyeballing the English saddle bag in August and saw it sell out online last month. I was delighted to see three in stock in Montreal during my visit!

When i get a chance i can, i love they are still made in Toronto and frankly the leathers are of premier quality. How many is hard to say, i do know often the small leather goods are made with leftovers so if you like a certain color etc may not be to many.

Certain bags are done in limited editions and some leathers are in limited supply. I currently use a post bag in black box leather but mine is lined in baby pink a LTD edition done for Valentines day. One of my oldest bags is done in a deep grape still available the style but not that color(small Venetian)

I've used Roots bags forever but being Canadian i can access them very easily and they last so i don't really "need" new bags they wear well and will do so for ages.

The box leather is beautiful too, and I know a certain premier leather designer often uses box leather. I bet they source from the same Italian factory! I’m jealous you have such easy access to Roots (my go-to destination when I have visited). I once saw someone in my town with a 90’s Roots nylon bag and when I asked about it, she said it was her mom’s...I got so excited for a moment that maybe someone else knew what it was. Other than that I have never seen Roots bags carried anywhere in the US! But I have to say I have been obsessed with my vegetable tanned bag since I picked it up. It’s exceptional!

I'm new to box, it's very smooth and soft, so far wearing well and is very low maintenance. They have a few stores in the US but it's limited, they ship worldwide though. They really do make wonderful products, glad your enjoying yours!

ummmm it can... (depends on bag and situation) chrome tanned can be durable, ( some have a rubbery feel to it) with oil tanned leather, sometimes you can rub out scratches, and sometimes restore it pretty quickly. veg tanned is usually good for tooling and carving designs and can have nice edges, and molding abilities as well

I buy from Roots online at least once a year (hoodies, socks, gloves, etc), but have only purchased three leather goods: a small tribe leather coin pouch, the Edie bag in tribe leather (color Africa), and the newest addition: English saddle bag. I don’t need any more bags, but my Roots bags get the heaviest use and hold up the best compared to similarly priced contemporary designers that are more often than not mass produced and made in China. If you don’t know much about box leather, know that Hermés seems to enjoy it as well .

Frye- bomb-proof, timeless yet edgy, can be a bit heavy depending on style - many styles

Liebskind- yummy leather, lighter weight, lots of styles.

Coach duffle -vintage or current. These age beautifully - not unscathed yet perfectly weathered w/ gorgeous patina and all the right scuffs. They look loved and lived-in. Same for Frye re: aging

You can usually find some styles of both lines discounted at Nordstrom Rack, Saks off fifth, tjmaxx, etc... watch half-yearly sale at Nordstrom for Good sale prices as well.

Another vote for Madewekk. They’re wonderful. Along with good sales on the regular, they also have a student discount with student ID - ask about it in a store

That would be fun a big order lol. Yes, Roots bags can and do hold up.. my mothers is still holding strong and she is not kind to bags at all... I know little about H other than the typical desire for that one style of bag lol. Glad box is liked, it's very soft.. and seems to handle things just fine.. i'm not bag abusive but also don't baby stuff...

I found a Liebeskind that I loved, but returned it and it's bigger sister because they used plastic hardware. I was so disappointed.
