Vera Bradleys are lightweight and mostly under $100.00. I have found good selections on Ebay.
Signature cotton( aka country house curtain fabric) and " solid faux - leather trim"? No , thank you.
Leather bags are all 200$+...
Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren both have affordable nylon totes with leather handles. I can not imagine Vera Bradley cotton bag paired with work outfit.

Didn't see all these replies! Thanks everyone!

I'm okay if it's not leather. I just want something durable that doesn't look too casual, so I could take it to the office with perhaps a textbook and a laptop in it. I found a Fossil bag that I got on sale and with a discount from DSW, it came to $100. It even has a shoulder strap. The shoulder strap honestly doesn't look that well made though so I'm still questioning whether I should keep it. It looks like cloth with a leather kind of top, but the way the two pieces of leather meet is sloppy. My husband doesn't think it'll be an issue but I'm not sure.

I checked out Etsy and saw some lovely looking leather totes, but they look heavy and don't have cross body straps, just shoulder straps, and my shoulders are sloped so handles never stay on me. I go cross body for pretty much everything, or top handle.

Thanks for the link to TJ Maxx. That bag is gone, although I would have liked something a bit bigger and different colored :) Thanks though! There's this one.. not sure how I feel about it..

Thanks! I'll check out the Nylon bags. I'm surprised they would be durable! I see people holding those Longchamp ones everywhere. I don't love the look though, I have to admit.

Hmm.. Should I check out a Coach Outlet? I always thought outlets had lesser quality items, but maybe that's not so true when it comes to Coach?

Still have the tags on my Fossil bag.. not fully committed yet. I read on Amazon that some people were having trouble with the quality going down recently of their items??

(not the bag I got, but the negative reviews worry me even though overall it's positive)

I vote for Longchamp for nylon; they are very durable! I used mine throughout college for about 3 years and although the straps have stretched a bit, it's still in great condition. I got the corners repaired for free a couple years ago. For leather, I like Madewell's totes. They have deals periodically, so you can definitely get one for under $150. I bought one in early summer and have used it regularly since then. The leather has broken in wonderfully and they are very comfortable to carry.

I just remembered, I got this from Oasis. It is big and can take some weight. It is reversible, so I wear it on the black side when it rains. It has held up well. It has a large separate pouch inside to store valuables and a zipped pocket. I paid £20 for it in the sales and am really surprised at how useful it has been for work. Oasis do have other styles of tote bags.

I would recommend the Tory Burch small York buckle. It's 250, but Tory Burch do a couple big sales a year online (30% off). Super hard wearing, keeps its shape, and can be dressed up or dressed down. Also really like the organisation inside.

Coach is wonderful, I have a Patent Leather tote from them and it's put up with all kinds of abuse. The outlet is definitely worth a Look-See

Another vote for Madewell leather bags. I have several of them (2 Transport Totes, the Lisbon bucket, Savannah saddle bag), as well as some of their wallets & other small goods, and they're workhorses. Also, Lauren Ralph Lauren bags are slightly pricier (typically same range as Coach or Dooney), but beautifully made & hold up great. If you don't want something brand new, I would suggest looking for a vintage Dooney & Bourke all weather leather or a vintage made in USA Coach. Those will hold up forever.
