Dear Hermes Carre experts,

I have a question regarding the H scarf factory. I know a lot of threads have been created about this, but i just can't help but curious. To my knowledge, its factory is in Lyon. However, last night, my cousin, offered me silk twill H scarves at a knock off price fresh from the factory in WUXI, China. The only reason why it's at a knock off price is because it didn't pass the QC to be sold in the boutiques. One is misprinted, or lacks the signature designer printing, another has minor hemming issue. But, she swore that the factory is in CHINA, because she visited it once from a factory visit programmed by her university in Beijing. She's majored in some textile program or something. Hence, the factory visit. If it is done by her university, it is highly unlikely that she visited the fake Hermes factory, right? I found in Wikipedia that in 2000, Hermes moved its clothing line production to China, but it didn't mention anything about scarves.

I'll just attach the scarves pictures she sent me for your judgement. And oh, she also offered me twillys. Here you go.

No one knows the story of the H silk production completely & for certain ... it is a well guarded secret & H lets one know only what they want you to hear
Ex:
The H web site, in the last week, says that ALL 90cm scarves - on the site - are silk screened, but to my knowledge some 90cm are inkjet printed. Where? I dont know - perhaps not in Lyon. They just dont have the room in Lyon to produce the vast quantities of scarves that are sold these days. The Daniel Buren limited eition $8000 scarves were inkjet printed, the H advertising for them says so, but I could not say where
The web site does not say that all 70cm are silk-screened.. nor do they say it about gavroches, mousse, cashmeres etc.. come to your own conclusion
But, to my knowledge there are no factories in China , perhaps someone has read otherwise
It would not surprise me that there are factories in China - there about are as many stores in China as in the US, and perhaps there was an agreement to do some production in China in exchange for the rights to put in so many boutiques there
I think all the scarves shown are fakes - cannot tell from the Printemps twilly though ... the Paperoles is definitely in a cw never produced

Thanks for the insight Maritouchet!

I know, all this 'information' about various brands nowadays just give me the chill. Anywho, I just dig out more info in regards to the H scarf factory in China is in fact a printing factory. After they print the scarves and twillys, the stuff that pass the Quality Control check, are to be sent to France. Meanwhile, the stuff that don't pass the QC, stay in China. Apparently, some 'naughty' employees found out a way of making more income for themselves and have been sneaking out past season collections from the factory to be sold at a 'reduced' price.

That's what I've been told so far. Not trying to spread rumors or anything. You are very much welcome to correct me in case I've been hearing false info. It is good to keep up to date about recent info or rumors that's been going on, so we can be more careful about our future purchases.

I have also heard that a surprising majority of the Hermes fakes out there actually originated with prior employees of the company. I don't know if this applies to leather or silks or enamel, but it is makes me quite sad.

Here's a link to a recent online post about it:

Most of the more recent booklets don't include the history and background information about the design. I know that the older booklets do provide information about the inspiration for the design.

Hello,

I was wondering if you could help me! I have spent most of this afternoon trying to work out if this scarf that is fake or not.

Basically I can't seem to find examples of the Zoe Pauwels " Pierres d'Orient et d'Occident " design in this colour (turquoise border) and another warning bell is the fact that the care bubble on the inside of the box lid is upside down!

After my research the scarf does appear to seem authentic (correct hem etc) but I just don't know.

Thanks!

Does anyone know if cashmere stoles could be made in Italy ? I saw one on Ebay and it claims that it is authentic. It is an Ex Libris design.

I've been seeing a lot of talk about summer twills on the boards lately. Are these a different size or material than the standard silk carres and pocket squares? I'm intrigued...thanks in advance for helping me learn!
