I do have somewhat of a chemistry background so I have read up about how gel polishes work since my initial post. It seems like "no one knows" whether Shellac will cure with a LED lamp but I read somewhere that some colors will cure, so I guess I was just looking to see if anyone here had had a good experience. But, I understand that the polymerizing compounds in Shellac are probably different than the ones used in other brands so it is likely that trying to use an LED lamp to cure Shellac will result in under curing. Which is a bummer, b/c otherwise the shorter cure times + convenience of getting the whole package from Ulta had won me over on RCM.

I'm definitely not a nail fiend that will go out and buy a zillion colors; Iced Coral on its own looks great on my nails, and I might buy 2 or 3 other colors to layer with it but I think I'll be happy with that. Do you think I should just stick with the Shellac system?

IDK if you read the posts about some of the experiences that happened due to undercuring, but it is not worth the risks. If you are undecided as to which line of gel polishes that you want to use, then do what most of us do. Use them all. There are not dupes for every color, and you can layer colors from one brand over a color from another brand. No problem, as long as you use reputable brands. However, there is one catch. This requires that you use a uv lamp as all gel polishes are curable under a cfl uv lamp, but NOT all gel polishes are curable under an led uv lamp. The good news is that the cnd lamp. which is the only lamp recommended to use with shellac, is a great lamp. That way, you can get your shellac color that you want, and the rcm colors which are convenient to buy, and the gelish colors at sally's, the random colors in the sog swap, etc.

Hi everyone!
Does anyone know which RCM color would be a dupe for Gelish Vegas Nights?

I tried looking through the SOG dupes thread, but goodness... I get so confused by the search options on TPF. I just can't seem to get the hang of doing a good search... ) :nogood:

Thanks in advance!

I have had my RCM Pro 45 lamp for around two months. The first two times I used it, the TIO cured completely and was nice and slick after I removed the inhibition layer.

The last two times, even after removing the inhibition layer, my nails have been sticky and I did not have the nice slick top coat.

Has anyone had their lamp have problems and not cure completely?

TIA!

I don't think RCM has a dupe for Vegas Nights, supernail progel sparkling mist or IBD Just Gel Fireworks are a dupe though

Thank you so much pinkprincess! That is great to know about the progel and IBD options. Have you tried RCM Gliterazzi? I wonder if it's close?

I have it, bought it thinking it was like vegas nights and its just silver glitter in clear base, still pretty but not holographic like vegas nights is. Vegas nights is much prettier IMO

I had the dupe lamp from gelish and had a similar experience. I had already had the problem with the first gelish lamp that came out, which was portable. I will use the two for traveling or camping, but not for regular use as I also noticed that they worked fine at first, but seemed to not work so well after awhile. I started paying really close attention to how I hold my nails under them, and tilted them first to one side, then straight on, then to the other side. It helped some. But I never could get as good a cure or as long-lasting a mani as I do with the cnd uv lamp.

I use the sensationail lamp and I have had it for at least 6 months and I'm wondering if it works better because its a box shape with a bottom and interior is all reflective material. I know led waves just go straight down so I don't really know if they can bounce off the reflective material and assist with better curing or not but maybe one of you ladies has more knowledge with this and would know. I'm just being curious if thats why the RCM/Gelish PRO lights aren't working as well because they are open.

Thanks for the post. I tried using two cycles of the led lamp today and that seemed to help somewhat. A few nails dried fine after one coat and others needed a second and/or a third coat to get that glossy finish.

This is very disappointing as I've only had it for 6 weeks or so.

Thanks!
