Ramesh Nair’s Designs

I'm also a bit on the fence about these latest designs, and also prefer his Moynat and Hermes models, at least from photos alone.
This may change when I see the bags in person, whenever that happens. In fact, the bag that I was most interested in was the Duclos tote. It looked really lovely and functional.
I thought the tote was maybe worth a look too but when they tell you up front that the bag is going to get shiny in places because of the nubuck I have to wonder why that particular texture was selected for a bag that’s designed to be used fairly hard. And I’m a barenia fan so I don’t fear a lived in look when it’s a patina, but a potential hot mess is another matter.
I hadn’t intended to be quite so negative but I guess I’m just underwhelmed and disappointed because I had such high expectations. :confused1:

I'm excited. I wasn't initially captivated by the collection, but I just read that the metal plate surrounding the Diane can have the inscription personalized and I love this idea. The price of the Diane is a bit steep, but depending on the level of customization, I'm a bit more receptive to it. It's one thing to spend that on a bag that can be purchased off the shelf, but another for a bag that's wholly tailored to my wants. I wonder how much can be customized.

A new post about an H bag I hadn’t seen before (Passe-Guide) on this thread reminded me of the new JD bags and surrounding hardware treatment:

A PB post about its reissue in 2012:

Possibly the redesign/reissue was in the works during Ramesh’s late stint at H?

Interesting! Thank you!

oh yay that's my post. I've always been interested in the Passe-Guide since they introduced the four-of-a-kind pieces that represented the United Kingdom and Ireland back in 2012.

They were for an online-only Christie's auction and all of the proceeds have been donated to the Royal Academy of Arts.

Yes and thank you for sharing - your posts about relatively obscure (to me anyway, LOL) H creations are always informative and interesting!

Those are four gorgeous bags!!

Ok, flame me. My initial reaction is  I think the Moynat designs were much stronger; these look like they’re trying awfully hard to be edgy + unique. The craftsmanship and the materials seem there, and the closure on the Diane is gorgeous, but were it not for Ramesh’s name being attached to this effort I wouldn’t look twice. And that’s before I get to the pricing problem.
for me that's the main problem. the name Joseph Duclos is unheard of, the name Ramesh Nair is only known to bag enthusiasts (I didn't even know of him until Moynat), and yet... it's priced almost like Hermès?

To be fair, I’ve not seen these bags in person so I’m fully prepared to revise my opinion, but for those prices the designs need to send me to the fainting couch. I’m still upright, and not even leaning….

I compared the new JD bag to its strip-of-leather-down-the-middle twin, and decided the JD version, with its larger flap, has a more balanced look. I’m feelin’ classic messenger vibes. I like it. What do you think? Does it remind you of the Celine 16 bag?

I’m excited.

When compared like this, the JD is definitely similar to the Celine. I actually toyed with the idea of buying a Celine 16, but then I read an article comparing the flap to a woman's private region and was never able to forget I read that. :(

I really like the charm on the JD, but I'm not filled with a burning desire to add something from them to my collection just yet. Maybe if it was an evening bag or something, but for now I'm content to just watch JD. I'm excited though! With the way quality control seems to be getting worse instead of better with so many brands, I'm always happy to hear about new brands that prioritize quality.

Hi all! I saw the Joseph Duclos bags in person at the store opening. They’re nice and definitely well made, but not worth the super pricey tag at this point. None made me want to buy them, although the Diane would be the one I’d get if i had to. I just love the Moynat bags much more. The store was very bare, almost museum like. I got photos but they aren’t the best… see below.

Thank you so much for sharing! Can't help but the clasp reminds me of a killer weapon  Shame about the pricing...
