Agree, agree, agree. I have a JD Saint Clair bag and I looooove it. The leathers used on JD bags are topnotch -- only full grain, aniline leathers. This is the top of the top and similar in quality only to BARENIA at Hermes. And like barenia, you either love it or not. It will scratch, it will patina. But that's what makes it amazing -- the bag develops a history with you. ❤️❤️One other thought about price. Considering the prices of Chanel bags currently and the quality, these prices seem very appropriate. I know the resale isn't there like Chanel, but the quality is so far beyond. (one added note, not a Chanel fan)

My point here is, does a brand name need to be famous, like commercially famous and recognizable for people to say, it's worth paying €€€€ for their bags? My answer to that is no. You buy the bag for the quality, not for its recognizability or brand value unless you're only in it to resell the bag someday ❤️for me that's the main problem. the name Joseph Duclos is unheard of, the name Ramesh Nair is only known to bag enthusiasts (I didn't even know of him until Moynat), and yet... it's priced almost like Hermès?![]()
I check the website occasionally (Ok, I am lying, all the time) and saw this new addition today. These bags are so gorgeous! Had to post some pictures of this new color.

I'm a proud customer of Duclos ❤❤ I can attest to the brand being under the radar and carried by women in the know (and not on social media). I went back a few days ago to order the passementerie strap which was stunning in person -- that'll land in stores in July ❤ What I love about the brand is, they really limit their bag production because the pieces are soooo special, and each is hand-crafted (unlike those big brands that claim they are by posting savoir faire videos on socials but in reality their bags are machine made and the sad part is, their customers cant tell the difference ✌).I really have to wonder too. Their niche seems to be the subtle elegance that flies under the radar though, but I find it odd that I haven’t seen any purchases posted here or on IG, not even a card case or pouch.
They could have a few clients who spend enough to keep them afloat who want to go unnoticed though. In luxury, it’s not necessarily about the quantity of customers, but about the quantity a customer purchases. There are a couple luxury boutiques by me that I rarely see anyone in, yet have been open for decades. I assume they have a client or two who favors these locations and purchases enough to justify the overhead of the store. I hope this is the case with Joseph Duclos.
Will share the sizes on my instagram stories soon. I decided on the smaller diane for my next purchase which im still saving up for -- @thebaghagHas anyone seen the Diane bag in person to be able to give some information on a comparison between the small and larger size? I'm interested in this particular JD bag but can't get an accurate sense of difference in the 2 sizes from just the photos on their website. Thanks.

Oh thanks!! The smaller bag is definitely better in my humble opinion ❤️Great - please do. I follow you on IG so I will keep a look out for it. I'm leaning towards the smaller version as well and I am also looking to get the passementerie strap for it too. Your earlier photos of the Diane bag and the passementerie strap are what first stoked my interest in it!
yes I credited you on the previous post.Oh those are my photos! Grabbed from my Insta
yes but the point I had was, even if the quality is similar to Hermès, can a not-so-famous brand set its prices like H does? My answer is no. Case in point: Peter Nitz. His bags are made like (sometimes even better than) H but he doesn't price them like a Kelly or Birkin. My point here is, does a brand name need to be famous, like commercially famous and recognizable for people to say, it's worth paying €€€€ for their bags? Agreed. I think for me it's partly down to confidence in the brand in future, rather than being recognisable or a famous brand or even future resale value.yes but the point I had was, even if the quality is similar to Hermès, can a not-so-famous brand set its prices like H does? Agreed. I didn't really consider the risks of investing in Moynat's first collection - the brand story, Ramesh, and M. Arnault were sufficient to seemingly guarantee longevity.Agreed. I'm confident that if I purchase something of that value from Hermes in 10 / 20 even 30 years I can take it back to them to be repaired if need be.
Smaller brands may well have just as good quality, but I'd be concerned with paying that much then finding that the brand no longer exists or will no longer repair it a few years down the line should something go wrong with the bag.
A slightly lower price point feels less of a risk in the future. Unless money is no object of course, but I have to be a little more careful with mine!
