I’m so happy to hear that you have found the reference photos useful. The thread on SOs with all the discussions about what colors and leathers to use for various member’s SOs made me think of using Calvis as color and leather swatches. Hermes has so many colors and leathers, the choices seem endless!

I change my mind a lot on which is my favorite but i favor the really bright colors because they are so easy to find in my bag. Currently my favorites are the bambou Chamkila, magnolia Epsom, and Rose Pourpre Madame. When it comes to colors that I have in 2 different leathers I do find a noticeable difference in how the different leathers take the color. Comparing rouge Grenat Evercolor (top) to rouge Grenat Swift (bottom), I prefer the color in Swift. Comparing rouge piment Madame (top) to rouge piment Evercolor (bottom) I prefer the color in Madame. Comparing Bleu Frida in Mysore (top) vs Bleu Frida in Madame, I prefer the color in Madame. Out of curiosity, Which do y’all prefer in the 3 color comparisons in different leathers I’ve pictured here?

I picked the same as you when looking at the comparisons for Rouge Grenat (Swift), Rouge Piment (Madame) and Bleu Frida (Madame). Thanks for these really helpful comparisons I hope you shared them in the Reference Library too!

A recent bag spill that I posted. I need to branch into more non blue-greens. I didn’t have any dark blue/green bags for a while so the contrast worked...but then the pendulum has swung the other way. Need to start hunting the pinks and reds (and dare I say, yellows!)

Thank you for the great comparison photos. This makes sense colorwise as I see them side-by-side. I suppose more porous leathers like Mysore will probably look darker because they would likely absorb so much dye in the dyeing process.

Your posts have been very helpful for choosing colors, I don’t have a store anywhere near me and won’t be traveling for quite a while due to COVID. I’ve been making color combo decisions using your reference posts!
