RaC VS Podium

Ok I was able to pull info this morning and here goes

Rack orders depend on three things

1- director offers because he or she has decided to leave space for bags as to better complete the podium order or show the option to specific and preferred clientele, and thus can offer all predetermined and special items, as long as he or she has it available in the stores allowance(so to answer you question darling I was given the chance to order ostrich because the exotic allowance of my store was not yet spent,) my sm suggested we do it through rack because he says that when in France directors may be pressed or pushed a little to some pieces or colors rack because it's coming from the demands of an actual client or store makes it easier to order more rare or difficult things my ostrich took over a year and a half so it's not like it made it faster faster .

2- with rack SM might also purchase things that have been offered to the store that is willing wants or can and will sell, an example of this would be diamond birkins kellys and from what I am told the new line of jewelry might be placed in this mode as well, so if a store through rack orders a diamond piece ,if said piece if found at a store that has not been able to sell the item might be transferred this is obviously very rare but can happen

3- rack is only and generally looked upon as a tool or option that can be taken for better supply or precise orders it does and again it is not limited ,it is defined by each store manager and can and will be used to his or her discretion

Again hope it helps and together with my other posts that I have checked on and all is right best birkel

Thank you so much Birkel :). This clears up a lot. I was offered a 25 croc with diamonds last year and was also offered a croc 35 birkin to be transferred in if I wanted to take it, from another store.

I've realized it really helps to have a great relationship with the SAs.

I forgot to ask, how long did it take you to get your rack order? And have you ever order from podium? If so, how long did that take?

As you can tell, I'm on the impatient side :p

my ostrich took 1 year and 8 months practically two since i tried oredering it since podium ,but it came just as i wanted it rose fluo that is truly fuschia but i was humored i guess to thinking it was rose fluo ,with fuschia lining i just think in chevre beautifull as it is rose fluo is well.its ..... fluo-rescent , but it is divine and i guess its a question of luck.because through podium i ordered a very specific kelly that i wish will some day come ,its 35cm retourne ciel matte croc i was told once it could not be done ,then they said yes but to this day i have no signs of it ariving. thing is the podium as i put in the other post can sway an sm in to one thing or the other. as oposed to rack where they call put in a request and then get a yes or no answer. thats it ! my SM does it a lot because he sometimes guesses what i want and gets it perfect but sometimes he waits to ask me like with my himalayan we ordered rack because he went saw what they had then came back offered me all the options and i still said himalayan but i like to have the latest options as do many of his clients i guess .and it has only been maybe 5 months and its comming in before christmas . hope it helps darling birkel.

MrsSparkles, to the English-speaking, "rack" means shopping rack ie. it is already made and available. But "rack" in France and Europe means "shelf orders" ie. traditionally, orders are given to craftsmen on shelves. In Paris at least, rack orders is equivalent to special orders. The only difference I know of is that elsewhere in the world, H has just come up with a set of rules concerning future SOs eg. interior and piping must match etc. If so, then SOs has become the "third category" because rack orders do not have these same rules.

exactly so one can say

podium order - including spots reserved and offered for good clients for what is offered on that podium (can sometimes be turned into special or rack orders depending on the client and the offerings at any given podium)

special order - for countries where it applies special guidelines can be denied etc so not that special anymore

rack order -anything goes - or term for "special orders" in paris without guidelines

custom orders - like it says custom designs changes and colors very controlled only limited clients

it is more or less semantics or a new category since the introduction of guidelines for SO´s in some countries that previously where not there

I was also offered a rack order and had never previously heard that term. Like, Jen_910, I was told no exotics. I'm guessing because my store's exotic allowance has already been spent. I will be going tomorrow to discuss my options and will report back if I learn anything new about this category and its limitations.

Thank you Shoemania :). What are you going to get? I was told I could even add my initials but I chose to keep it classic and simple :)

Let me know how it goes!! and good luck

Thanks, shoemania. So kind of you to offer. Shall await for your post.

Oops sorry. I didnt know everyone could get there initials. Ive been a loyal customer at my H store and I STILL have a hard time getting what I want.

I guess I have bad luck with H :graucho:

It's not luck. It's the mystery of Hermes. I'm sure we all have a hard time getting what we want! Nothing comes with a snap of a finger. So you're not alone. :sweatdrop:

I'm going to chime in with what I've learned throughout the past decade+ shopping at H. Also my personal experience with rack/special and custom orders.

There are three types of orders:

Podium Order: As we all know, each store's respective SM heads out to Paris to order the following season's new items and fill out certain customer's wishes if the color/leather is offered (e.g. 35 cm Etoupe Birkin with PHW).

Rack Order: TammyD mentioned, is used as "special order" in France and in Europe. Guidelines and limitations varies depending on the store.

Special Order: In the U.S. and Asia, we usually term "special order" as what people in France would say "rack order". Again, guidelines and limitations varies depending on the store.

Custom Order: Handbags or accessories made with individual specifications -- can be beyond the prototypes AND include variations of different leather types (e.g. exotics). In other words, made-to-order with no limitations, depending on the status of the customer at Hermes (usually VVVIPs).

This is very interesting. I was offered to place a special order but when I said I would like a certain colour (not that uncommon) in a certain leather (again not that uncommon), they said no. But I can have a contrast lining.... I didn't really understand how the logic works. My colour is being rested this year but I thought contrast lining was more "special"??

I always assumed the special order meant I could order anything I want but apparently that is not the case, I learnt here.

Now what I need is a rack order!!!
