Questions about leather protector & strap darkening

I got my first LV (Batignolles Horizontal ) and I'm wondering a few things,

First off, can you spray them with leather protector? To protect against rain and such? That leads to another thing, is it okay to carry my LV in the rain or should I avoid it? Is there a leather protector anyone can reccomend??

I'm also wondering about strap fading. I love the light colour of the straps now, I don't really want them darkening to a darker brown. Is there anything I can do to prevent it? How long have your LV handles stayed the light creamish colour? And if they fade is there any way to lighten them?

th fading, or 'patina process' as we refer to it around here is, unfortunately, inevitable, however if it irritates you that much, it is possible to have the straps replaced by louis vuitton. also most people would probably advise against carrying it in the rain, as water can stain the vachetta, but im not sure of a leather protector, guys?
