Question about exchanges

I'm a regular at my local store and exchanging is never a problem, even months after the purchase, I can go in without a receipt (who bothers to keep them) and they allow me to do an exchange. I think it's more a courtesy for me since I'm a regular, not necessary a store policy. But the SAs are always very nice about it - more reason to love my store and shop there even more! I've exchanged scarves, a wallet, a bag, perfumes, shoes...sounds like I'm a bad customer but spread those exchanges over years and it's not THAT bad (I hope).

I recently received a phone order of a bracelet from my SA in New York. If I end up needing to exchange it for a different size at my local boutique, does my NY SA still get credit for the sale? I am trying to consolidate all of my purchases with my NY SA. Thanks!!!

I'm not sure about commission, but your profile will appear as though you bought a bracelet from your local store. I suggest you contact your preferred SA and ask for guidance on making the exchange through her.

Thanks very much for the reply! In that case I’ll check back with my SA. He is currently on vacation but I will just wait for him to return since I have 30 days to exchange.

Ladies, are you familiar with H exchange policy?

A dear friend wanted to change a scarf that he purchased with a wallet. But was told that he cannot do so. Only exchange with scarf/shoes?

Is this this true?

Ta!

As with all Hermes policies, the above rule is true unless it's not. (i.e. Yes, but at the SA's/SM's discretion to ignore). Do try a search for exchange policy and find other members' experiences.

Best to exchange within the purchase store. Amount has to be equal or more as H does not refund, only store credit issued. He's allowed to exchange to other product catergory as long it's within 30 days. I assume the SA is new?

I’m surprised. Wouldn’t that be illegal? Can’t the customer just ask for their money back and then just purchase a wallet?

No, he mentions that the SA had actually asked the cashier and was told it is not possible to exchange it with (not just B/K) but any kinds of leather.

Its a shame that H doesn’t have an english policy. Everything is written in french!

Hermes doesn't give cash refunds for items bought in store unless very extenuating circumstances. It's on their receipt back which you agree to at time of sale. I'm sure if one makes a big enough fuss they will refund you (assuming it's just buyers remorse, not a product defect) but your relationship with the store would likely be compromised.

Oh no, from what I gathered from him, he is not requesting for a refund. But would like to change his scarf with a H wallet.

But was told that scarf can only be exchanged with shoes/scarfs.

I got curious about this question so I looked up the "code de la consommation" under French law. Indeed, the seller is not obligated to refund a product unless it's broken or has a defect. We learn every day!

Hmmmm...did he try to do a return instead of an exchange? I've returned a LOT of things at H and never been restricted on how I can use the credit. (If this did happen, I am also sure Amex would fight it, but it doesn't make much sense to me why H would try this.)
