Wow...what an interesting thread! I had a jade bracelet many years ago that a friend brought me from a trip. I don't have a clue where she was now, but I'm guessing somewhere in Asia. It was a darker green completely round bangle. I wore it for a long time, but I either misplaced it or it broke. I'm sure it wasn't top quality, but seeing how long ago it was, the price must be much higher now than what she paid.

I was just in NYC and wish I'd looked for a bangle; I was in Chinatown...:sad:Oh, well, next year that's what I'll be scouting out!!

Thanks for all the great information. I've always loved jade.

this continues to be such an informative thread! I told my mom that I was interested in getting a jade bangle and she made fun of me saying that only old chinese women wear one and that she doesn't even own one. I love the translucent green ones that you have posted though! I used to have a light lavender heart pendant but I'm sure it was not good quality. Maybe when I visit Taiwan in October I will be able to find/haggle one for myself!

Yes, Pandapharm, even my mom said the same thing to me, why do you want a jade bangle?? you are not ' old' enough to have one..
I like the idea of a beautiful jade bangle that is organic and lovely to look at and have colours that will morph and change as you wear it.. a gold bangle can't do that. :graucho:
The transculent ones are so pretty, i bet they will match with most outfits since they look neutral.

Actually in Asia, quite alot of the younger ladies wear jade bangles too, though they seem to prefer the lighter coloured ones like pale lavendar or white. These can look very pretty too :smile1:.

Pfft... jade comes in so many different colours that anyone can wear one :D

Younger ladies tend to prefer lavender bangles like this one, ≈$6000

I know!! they are so alive, I think that is what makes it so cool! the translucent ones would definitely be cool.

The lavender stole my heart !:woot:
For those of you who have jade bangles, do you have the rounded ones like the one above or the flat inner bangles ? How do you choose which bangle and why ? ;)
ooh...I never thought of that. I think both would be comfortable, the flat inner ones remind me of the "comfort" bands on some rings (ie Tiffany). I think I would prefer the flat inner so that if I had to rest my forearm against the bangle it was a flat surface rather than a round indent...does that make sense??

Mine has a flat inner surface. I was under the impression that a flat inner one may be easier to slip on and off but i may be wrong. The rounded ones look nice too and i plan to get one of those so i can have a different look.

The bangle I've been wearing for 10+ years is rounded and fits very comfortably (never comes off). I was gifted another bangle recently with a flat inner rim, which was easier to get on and off, but is also much wider, with a larger diameter. The delicate one I currently wear fits fairly snugly, which makes it less likely to get banged up. I would try both styles on to see what works for you. If you plan on taking it off, rather than wearing it continuously, you may want to go with a larger, flat-rimmed style.

Stunning! Love the color. My first bangle (and jade piece) was a lavender bangle. Sure wish I couild find it. Would love to post a pix of it. Please enjoy yours for the two of us.

Thanks! I'm waiting for the day when I can wear it more often than just once in a while. Not only am I clumsy but with my two little ones I'm always doing something that would probably break this bangle.

My dh did give me a lavender bangle when we first got married and I dropped it (!!) and sadly it broke. I'm trying to find a place that will make it into a hinged bangle...the purple color on that bracelet is more pronounced. I'll take a pic of that to add here. I do think that one may be completely untreated.

Sorry to hear about the bangle. Are you saying you want to modify the broken bangle into a hinged bangle ? There is a saying/ myth that if a jade bangle is broken, don't bother fixing it because it is unlucky.
Or maybe it is just an excuse for sales people to get us buy more and more !:smile1:
Jade bangles are worth more as a solid whole bangle than hinged ones. But i do see where you are coming from, hinged bangles are so easy to wear. Have you tried those jewellery shops in your local chinatown ?

I haven't tried yet. It's got a crack straight down the middle of the bangle. I figured it wouldn't be that difficult for a specialist to make a cut exactly on the opposite side of the bangle (to spilt it into two equal pieces; hopefully the stone will cut correctly and not cleave and break badly) and then hinge it and add a clasp....if not, I'll never get to wear it again, and it's such a sentimental and pretty piece that I'd be sad not to.

But if it'll be bad luck...lol, I don't need anymore of that right now!

I had a similar thing happen with a solid jade ring. I dropped it and it broke in half. I had a jeweler glue it together, but was told later on not to wear it since it would be bad luck. I have since had it blessed by a spiritual Chinese master, who told me I could now wear it, but its protective quality is gone. Needless to say, I no longer wear it and have since purchased two more jade band rings and am enjoying (and hopefully being protected by) them immensely.
