Petals12, I just want to say these are incredible!! So beautiful! How do you decide which bangle to wear? :p

Thanks so much MrsChinadoll :)

Usually when I fee that I can use more positive energy, I'll wear the ones with green, for stressful time, I'll wear my lavender or whites. The days that I wanna feel different...I'll wear my winter melon (darker green color) or my green with red :D

And then today...I am wearing 2 on my left wrist...my round lavender/ green along with my flat green/white bangle. And I love hearing the sound when those 2 bangles meet each other .... though it might drive my hubby nut the whole day long...LOL

Here is a pic of it..

Clairejune, went to the facebook page that Jadeite suggested and I saw this most beautiful jade with gold work. Made me think about your green jade piece. So, so pretty and delicate. I know you want the gold to be thinner but just thought I'd show it to you. By the way this shop has beautiful pieces.

Wow...that's elegant looking... I like :smile1:

Thank you jjtt. So nice of you to let us know what is happening in Singapore. It really helps to learn about different places so that we can be informed when we want to make a purchase. Thanks so much for sharing. Be sure to share a picture of your new jade bangle when you get it from JoJo.
Yes, I will. Hope it arrives soon :)

Very nice :smile1:. Out of curiosity, are all ur bangles the same size?

Some thought about modern jewelry like the contemporary pieces which Jadeite posted; I wonder what the price of these things are in terms of how they compare to higher quality jadeite. Those pieces were designed for large scale production, as the gold work is rough, and the gems are most likely berrillium defused, glass filled, heated and what ever else they do to gems for mass production that is so common in designer pieces. I think jewelry like that is gorgeous, but should not be in the same price category as finer quality. All these embellishments don't make up for the lower quality in terms of color and translucency. You see this all the time now. Many expensive, designer jewelry use gold with mother of pearl and clear quartz over it and other, cheaper alternatives. Yet, they are sold at an expensive enough price to compete with higher quality jewelry. Yes, I know you pay for a name brand and designer anything these days, but the trend extends beyond the designer name. For example, rough, industrial grade diamonds are sold uncut and in beads, and fetch a huge price for what they are just because they are diamonds. There is little human workmanship involved. The resale value of these items usually very low. This is an interesting situation and redefines what people imagine as fine jewelry. Just look at the designer fine jewelry on the Neimen Marcus website. So far, I haven't bought any thing like that, but it is an amazing marketing accomplishment.

You are quite correct on that I believe, and the pieces I posted cost about $200-$400 which IMO is very reasonable - again the caveat you know what you are paying for, it is basically well designed jewellery using standard or average grade materials but very good use of them to make something pretty.

And this is one I've been coveting for a couple of months now. It's honey brown, and not at all a popular shade, but is it even jade? This one isn't from Ying Yu. It's a seller off eBay who seems to sell predominantly older items. The costume jewelry and items she sells in categories I DO know about are all legit and priced on the lower side. Like above wholesale, but toward the low, low end of retail. But as I said above, I know next to nothing about jade.

hi gga, if you like this, go for it. it may help if you don't expect this to be jade, and don't plan on paying a steep price for it.

I would like to share my experience buying jades from Myanmar, China, Taiwan and Singapore.

Myanmar - home of jadeite - actually did not have the nicest things. The best rough are usually shipped out to Hong Kong for cutting, and then sold to China the biggest jade market of all. I saw mostly spinach green and white stuff at the Mandalay jade markets; the cuts were a bit rough and the polish was basic. My friend however spent a bit more time in Yangon and managed to reward herself with an imperial green pendant. I don't recall how much we paid (their currency was very confusing) but our purchases did not burn any holes in our pocket.

My next purchase, a bangle, was in Yunnan province of China. That's near to the border of Myanmar's jade producing region, so by proximity, Yunnan has A LOT of jadeite. My jade bangle was certified by the Chinese government lab no less, but to this date I'm still unsure if it's an A or B. It was priced as a grade A for sure. I've shown it to dealers in Taiwan and Singapore who say it's a B. In fact they tell me most jades from China are B, so it's buyer beware. Having lived in CHina for many years, I'm fairly used to it when people get suspicious of things from China. That includes the mainland Chinese themselves, that's why many of the rich prefer to fly to Hong Kong or Europe or Singapore to get their LV bags and diamonds and such, they just don't trust their own local sources.

My few trinkets purchased in Taipei were definitely B, B+C and so on. They were just rings and pendants that didn't cost much, and frankly back then I didn't know or care much about acid treatments and colour dyes. Some merchants were upfront about what was A and what was B or C, but there were shady ones who insisted theirs was A and they could issue a cert to prove it. It got a bit hilarious when I did ask for a cert and the seller directed me to the main reception counter. When I got there, the receptionist said she can issue me a cert ONLY IF the seller so says it's A. I went totally like... Huh???

As for Singapore, where I studied and still visit twice a year, the merchants are generally upfront about what is what. Singapore is a place where the trust level is high. However I find the selection of jade to be limited, perhaps because like the earlier posters said, jade is not popular with the younger generation. They think it's old fashioned, or they think it has religious links (you'd hardly see Christians wear jade for example, but the Buddhists and Taoists do). Li Hong and Peach Blossom are the 2 most well-known jade vendors here, but I find their selection to be unexciting and the colours are run of the mill, compared to what you can find on Jojo for example. They stock some modern colours that appeal to younger buyers, but most of their lavender jades are really just the common yam-coloured variety. For that, I think they charge way too much. But Li Hong has nice designs, including square-shaped bangles. If you want a central place to browse and bargain, go to The Bencoolen where most merchants actually hail from China and I do think most sell Grade A, but you need to bargain hard. For me, I'm happy to have narrowed my sources to 3 reliable old-businesses that have been dealing in jade for many years. They've been in the jade business for decades and their wares are of outstanding quality. I won't disclose them here as I don't want their prices to go up astronomically, but if you're visiting Singapore please pm me I'll be glad to share. :)

My next stop will be Hong Kong. Anyone has recommendations of where we can shop there there? I'm sure Hong Kong is the most sophisticated place to shop for jadeite!

I think druzy nailed it. The thing about jade shopping in HK, it's also best to find a reliable jade dealer and jeweller that someone knows well.

Thanks! I know of Li Hong, but it's the only reputable store in Singapore that i know about. In fact, i visited it once, but u're right, their things are expensive, though very beautiful. Just wondering if there are other places worth a visit :smile1:

there are some traders which druzy mentioned at Bencoolen worth a look, and if you're in the mind for some beautifully expensive jade, also visit Dynasty Jewellers.
