I have a few of these and I love the idea but my bags (most of them) are too heavy) I want that retractable one! Where do I get that one?? IMO they are very discreet, I don't consider them at all pretentious -

Honestly, I would feel really, really pretentious whipping this out of my purse and hanging my handbag on the end of a table at a restaurant.

Why? I personally wouldn't. I paid a lot of money for my bags and I don't want it to get dirty. It's as pretentious as putting your purse on a separate chair which I do anyway
 otherwise I'll just hold it.

i have that one! my mom got it for me and my sisters for christmas...she's asleep right now but in the morning i can ask her where she got it and tell you (i hope i remember!). it also has a little cute dust bag to put it in. i love it!

I think it would be great at the movies. I hate putting my bag on the floor...ewwww.

Definately "ewwww".

About the handbag hook, I still remember going to weddings when I was younger and my Italian Aunts always sat down, opened the purse, whipped out the handbag hook, and hung the bags on the table. I was told that's what ladies do. And this way no one can trip over your bag while it's on the floor.

Never thought of that as I live someplace that isn't so crowded that you don't get to have an entire extra seat to sit your purse on but OMG movie theather floors would be the worst!

Has anyone ever tried on of those handbag hooks that you bring with you that hangs off the table so you don't have to put your handbag on the floor? Do they work? They look like they'd just fall off the table, but I would love an alternative to my lap when there's no banquette or booth, which, in NYC there often isn't. Plus here, you can't really dangle it off the back of your chair and I hate putting a gorgeous purse on a dirty floor. Any suggestions?

I would like to try one! I wonder how many lbs. those hooks they can hold up. Does anyone know?
I don't know in terms of pounds but I have 3 of them, one pretty heavy duty. I cannot use them for my Roxanne or any of my larger bags (and most of my bags are big) - they are really great for smaller purses, I can use it with my Chanel which is a medium sized tote. At first I thought it was a great idea and got a bunch of them, now I am under-enthused.

This post was brought up previously. But I have to share with you; While in a quaint little resturaunt, a lady took her litte hook out of her not so little bag, attached it to the table, hung her purse and over went the table, candle and all, lighting her skirt on fire, luckily I had my glass of ICE water available to dump right in the middle of her lap. I sware its true. I guess you could say, Im not fond of purse hooks, nor is she!

I bought one recently - for my new pink suede Coach hobo - and it works just fine. The bag has a pretty wide strap, which doesn't really fit well on the hook, but the strap has metal rings in it which I hang from the hook. The hook I bought can be found at http://www.uniqdetails.com/products/pursemate/action2.htm

It comes with a little pouch to keep it in. Don't know how much weight it will hold, but I don't keep that much stuff in my bag.
