Pros & Cons to Round vs Cushion Cut Diamond??

I don't think there are necessarily any pros or cons to either cut, but it all depends on perference.

I have a three stone round cut and I love it. I looked at other cuts and the round just looked the best on my finger. One thing to keep in mind is to get what makes you the happiest and what you think looks the best. Because at the end of the day, you're the one wearing it!!

^ Great thread!
IMO I love the cushion a lot more than round. I do think it's cool to differentiate the ring either in cut or setting from the generic style everyone else has. In terms of the fire and scintillation I actually think that either an antique cut or a more modern cut of Cushion has so much more power over round. i love this website http://goodoldgold.com/Diamond_Videos/ which I learned from this forum and it's great education.
Hope you find the exact one you want! (i also love the cushion with halo :) ) good luck!

Contessa, your ring is gorgeous!

I was set on the cushion after I tried on the round. I felt my fingers were just too chunky and short for a round cut...LOL!

I really lean towards cushion cut. I do think Round Brilliant looks great on a lot of people but for some reason I just dont like the shape on me as much as I like cushion! I even went into Tiffany recently and tried on a Tiffany Classic 1.76c RB and although its gorgeous I just didnt love it on my hand as much as the cushion.

So in conclusion, I would go with whatever looks best/ most "you" on your hand!

I have a beautiful vintage-cut cushion from Good Old Gold that I absolutely adore. I was sure that I wanted a chunky cushion after looking at so many of them on Pricescope, and no one locally had any or could source any.

If you look around on Pricescope, there are many gorgeous cushions there, including the August Vintage series from Good Old Gold and Brian Gavin Diamonds can source lovely ones, too. I bought my stone from GOG and my wedding band from BGD and couldn't be happier with either.

The photos and videos on GOG's site were most helpful for me in making a decision. Also, I called several times and talked to them about their in-person impression of the diamonds before making a selection. The fact that I'm not in NY and saved the sales tax on the purchase didn't hurt, either!

Monkeysink do you have photos of your ring anywhere on the forum? I'd love to see it. I keep hearing about these "chunky" cushion cuts but my experience with cushions are more squared with corners shaved off. Are the chunky cushions more oval?

If you're looking at a Tiffany cushion, then you can't go wrong!!

My boyfriend I went today to look at the fancy yellow cushion in the halo setting: http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Ite...params=s+5-p+1-c+649502-r+-x+-n+6-ri+-ni+0-t+

It's absolutely stunning and I'm contemplating it as my engagement ring ;)

BTW, for those that are interested, that impossibly low price posted on the Tiffany's page is just a starting price point, I think for .50 carat center stones.

For me,

Rounds: Pro - classic and will be forever tasteful. Con - so classic and majority of e-rings are rounds... Might risk the chance of getting "bored" someday.

Cushions: Pro - unique shape and exciting. A bit different yet beautiful. Con - it's a "fancy" shape so down the line, you might get bored of it and ache for something uber-classic like a nice face-up-bigger round.

I personally don't consider halos to be "trendy." I fell in love with cushion cut halos several years ago. I think most women pick a ring that truly reflects their style. I picked a ring that reflected my so-called "classic" taste.

^^I agree, and actually Cushions are the most timeless of all since they were one of the first ways diamonds were cut. The more I think about it and research and read peoples thoughts the more I realize that I want what I always did from the very beginning, which is a cushion cut :smile1:
