I vote for cushion. It is such an elegant cut. I am just totally against RB. Firt of all, they just don't look good one me. I will admit, the ones on this forum look great on you ladies. I like rings that are a lil different and it seems that for every 2 rings you see 1 is RB. You can also get a head/prong of the setting to make a cushion look more round.

I think both are absolutely gorgeous! The best thing to do is try your ideal ring on with each cut of diamond, and choose the one that makes your heart race!

My husband really loved three stone rings, and I do like them, but I wanted a round brilliant solitaire, and that is what I chose. Every time I had it on, I couldn't keep my eyes off it, and my heart rate would SOAR!

Have you looked at a RB in a 4 prong instead of a 6?? It 100% changes the overall look. It's worth checking out.

I know alot of the time I have girls come in wanting a cushion or an ascher and they wind up with a larger rb in a 4 prong tiffany setting.

Oh my gosh how you're bringing me back down memory lane! I remember how much fun it was shopping for my diamond!!!! Those were good times! : )
I have to say that I looked at both cushions and rounds, and while you are right, a cushion looks a little larger, I chose the round brilliant because they tend to sparkle so much more, and in the end, that was more important to me than size!
Good luck with your choice.

I love love love the look of cushion cut. HOWEVER, I have found that IRL they have to be super-huge to look "cushion-y". Otherwise, they just look like...not-round, not-square stones. So I would recommend round in the 1.5 carat range.

the cushion cut tends to be a "heavy" stone. specs may be the same with the RB but with the naked eye, it will look smaller than the RB because it tends to be a "heavier" stone instead of a "spread-y" stone (where stone appears bigger or larger).

in the end, pick what your heart desires. i personally love either one. i have a RB as an engagement ring and will hold dearly to it because it's such a classic. but i love to have a cushion-cut one day.....

Maybe look in your jewelry box and see what shapes you have the most of?

I thought that I liked emerald cuts the best, but when I really looked closely at my jewelry, every single ring that I had pcked out for myself, including three stone rings and pinky rings was an RB.

Hi Ladies,
My boyfriend and I have begun the daunting task of educating ourselves on diamonds in order to create an engagement ring in the next several months. Besides the fact that it is fairly overwhelming, it is also quite exciting. I am wondering what your thoughts are on a round brilliant cut diamond versus a cushion cut? I went into this whole thing set on a cushion cut, but I have moments where I love some the round diamonds in halo settings as well and also wonder if sometimes the round appears larger than the cushion, and that can never be a bad thing right ;) So your thoughts and experiences with either would be greatly appreciated :smile1:

When I was trying on different rings, I felt like the cushion cut diamonds appeared smaller. I think choosing one is like choosing an Asscher, you love how the facets reflect light so it's worth it to pay for the extra weight needed to achieve a certain look.

I initially wanted anything but round, because I wanted something different. After trying on rings at Tiffany, I realized that the round cut looks great on my hands. I love my sparkly rounds! My ring flashes all over the place.

I agree, I at first wanted cushion but when I tried on the rounds, the round brilliant's brilliance blew the cushions away.

The only cushion that I've seen that matched the fire, scintillation and sparkle of a round is the Harry Winston cushion. But I think you should try on the different styles for yourself to see what you like on your hand =)
