Pros & Cons to Round vs Cushion Cut Diamond??

I'm going to love this thread! I agree with the others who posted before me. I always thought I liked and wanted a cushion cut. But the rounds look so much better on me. They sparkle the most (IMO) and also look bigger (IMO). I have a 1.25 round in a HOF halo setting and love it. But I unfortunately think that the halo is a trend so hopefully I'll still love it in 10 years!

I absolutely fell in love with the cushion cut 5 years ago when I spotted it on the cover of a Martha Stewart magazine. I contemplated a round but it didn't really look so great on me. I had my e-ring custom-designed and I couldn't be any happier and my ring sparkles all the time :cloud9:

I've had BOTH!!!!

 the cushion & the round brilliant!

BOTH sparkle & BOTH are gorgeous.

I currently wear an RB & have to say that it sparkles just that much more........& YES........it's larger than a cushion b/c while you're losing the corners off the cushion, you're gaining it on the sides ALL the way around!

You can't go wrong with either....& if your heart was set on a cushion, don't let this forum, friends, or anyone else sway you from getting the rock of your dreams.

I admire women who know what they want & aren't afraid to be different. There are some gorgeous cushions to be found out there!!!! Good luck!

my SO and i both favor cushion cut so that's what my e-ring has. it does look smaller, but i think a cushion cut is more "me" and i feel like a cushion cut is more flattering for my fingers (i've always thought they're fat lol). my mom has a round solitaire so that may be why i've always found round to be too classic and even boring for me.

^^THank you Contessa!! That may end up being the most helpful post of all the ones I've read in this thread and a millions others in here on engagement rings. I really have always had my heart set on a cushion...I find now that I'm learning about all the "technical" stuff with diamonds-the 4 C's, etc...that it's making me question a lot. But at the end of the day I just want to love the diamond and the ring. Regardless of if the specs are "perfect" or not. So thank yo of reminded me to trust what I have had my heart set on :flowers:

You're most welcome :hugs:

I'll admit, the reason I ended up with an RB was b/c my cushion had 2 'naturals'....or trigons as they're frequently called. I panicked and saw those as defects. I mean.......women want their diamonds perfect, right??

I dunno........

Each diamond has a story & a history. People aren't perfect......marriages are far from it.

Part of me regrets not keeping my gorgeous cushion.....because like me, it wasn't perfect.

Something to keep in mind as you're searching for your "perfect stone" ! ;)

Here's are 2 pics of my previous beauty......

Definitely go with your heart! My friend has a cushion and I see her every day (it's actually a cushion with halo) and I think it must be a very low colour (like D, E, F) because it looks like sparkly ICE on her hand! I have the Tiffany Round Brilliant myself but am CONSTANTLY admiring hers too and would have been thrilled with hers. Trust me if it's well cut no one will say "why didn't she get a round one" - the differences in how it faces up etc. are all pretty much indistinguishable in the end - go with what makes your heart sing!

^^ Oh that is what I want!! A cushion with the halo  your friends sounds like it's just lovely. My dad bought my mom a "just because" gift 2 years ago that is a 2.7ct yellow cushion cut diamond from Tiffany's that's set in a very simple platinum setting and I ADORE it and the stone looks a fabulous size. I think that is what really started my love affair with that shape stone. All of your inputs are so welcome and helpful, thank you again!!
