Some gossipy background on Beatrice.
Turns out, there is more to the royal’s happy-ending than meets the eye.

"The bride-to-be wore Zimmerman.
Princess Beatrice beamed with the giddy look of love one would expect of a woman wearing a $1000 dress, $180,000 rough-cut diamond ring and multi-millionaire property tycoon
fiancé.
The thing is, for some of us, particularly those who find ourselves still tirelessly swiping left on back-to-back gym
selfies and giant cats, it would be understandable - hell, reasonable - to feel the slightest pang of unsolicited jealousy at Princess Beatrice’s engagement news.
But as is nearly always the case, nothing is quite as shiny as it seems away from Instagram - no matter how close you are in line to the throne. So while she might be a princess, when it comes to finding her prince (or in this case, count - a title he inherited from his father), Bea has had to kiss just as many frogs as the rest of us, before finding her love, Eduardo Mapelli Mozzi.
Let’s start at the beginning.
Call it curiosity or maybe (and more likely) raging teenage
hormones, but dating a bad boy in your high school years is practically a right of passage - and Bea was no exception.
His name was Paolo Liuzzo. Then-17-year-old Beatrice dated the Long Islander in 2006 after the pair reportedly met through mutual friends. Unfortunately, it went pear-shaped when a background check revealed he was not exactly royal material. In 2002, he had been convicted of assault and battery for his part in the death of a Worcester student at an apartment brawl, according to
People. Liuzzo received three years probation, during which he was only allowed to travel to UK for work - but he broke this condition when he travelled to Switzerland with Beatrice and her family. The relationship ended shortly after - you can just imagine the tête-à-tête with Grandma Elizabeth.
Then came Dave Clark: the twinkly-eyed American businessman, who Fergie lovingly nicknamed ‘Mr Smiley’. Clark and Bea reportedly met through Prince William at the birthday party of Pierce Brosnan’s son, Sean, and instantly hit it off (I mean, talk about a meet-cute!).
The couple dated for 10 years before going their separate ways, for which the birth of
Princess Charlotte was reportedly the catalyst. Her birth pushed Beatrice down to seventh in line for the throne - meaning the couple no longer had to seek the Queen’s permission to marry.
However, according to reports, when a proposal still didn’t come, Beatrice put her foot down and issued an ultimatum. Sadly, the couple announced their “amicable and mutual” split in 2016.
While they had reportedly been drifting apart for some time, it was also reported that Prince William, despite introducing them, was “not a fan” of Clark, which had also caused issues. Understandably, the princess was reportedly “devastated” when the decade-long union ended.
It got worse.
Barely had Clark’s newly-annointed bachelor toes touched the ground before he (very publicly) moved on. Less than a year after the split, the Uber executive announced his engagement to New York advertising executive, Lyn Anderson. The couple tied the knot durish a lavish Lake Como wedding in front of celebrity guests such as Ashton Kutcher and Sara Sampaio. Despite the heartbreakingly swift rebound, Beatrice was said to be “super happy” for her ex and his new wife.
Meanwhile, she suddenly found herself in an all-too-relatable-these-days position: 30 and
single. And to rub salt in the wound, she was surrounded by newly-engaged couples: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner.
Sure, she would have been happy for them, but as anyone who has been in a similar position well-knows, such moments can feel, well, a tad bittersweet - and yet, to her credit, despite the recent blow to her own personal life, Beatrice remained the supportive cousin, sister and friend, as demonstrably seen by the screenshot Kloss took of
Beatrice’s ecstatic reaction to her engagement.
Maybe she knew something better was coming.
And so it did. And his name was Eduardo.
The pair have reportedly been moving in the same circles for years but, according to
People, sparks began to fly last year, a few weeks before Eugenie’s wedding. Fast forward a year, the couple were engaged in Italy earlier this month. Announcing the news, they said they “can't wait to actually be married”, adding their shared interests and values “will stand us in great stead for the years ahead”.
The couple’s families also delighted at the news, with Edo’s parents saying marriage “will only strengthen what is already a wonderful relationship” and Fergie saying she had “tears of joy”.
But the sweetest, most poignant tribute came from Edo himself, who posted a series of black-and-white photos of the couple to Instagram, writing: “You will never be alone my love, my heart is your home. Hand in hand, today, tomorrow and forever.”
Don’t you just love a happy ending?"
