Prince Harry and Meghan Markle thread

I kindly request that all members participating in the MM and Harry thread dial back the vile rhetoric.

I am not opposed to discussing public personas on TPF, including the constant torrent of news surrounding the couple from this thread. But I find it troubling when their looks are being nitpicked apart to a degree that is just not appropriate.

This thread has drawn criticism over the years, and I discussed it at great length with Megs and the mods. I am not looking to close it down, but the vitriol needs to be dialed back.

My personal feelings about hate threads aside, this ultra-negative vibe is something better suited for other forums, Reddit, or elsewhere. I am holding our community to higher standards.

Thanks for reading.

An interesting opinion from someone else…

It was no surprise that in the years after his mother’s death, Harry’s behaviour was seen by many to be erratic and that he suffered from anxiety and depression. His misfortune was to have married a woman who, instead of rescuing him from his demons as Kate appears to have done with William, dragged him into her own destructive vortex of anger and narcissism

Harry and Meghan tried to break the monarchy and failed. The King is popular; the Waleses more so. Harry may be a damaged and painful limb of the royal organism but banishing him at the moment his father is crowned would feel as if the monarchy had been amputated…

Whether not Meghan accompanies her husband is a detail. The person who matters here is Harry.

So the King should indeed go to considerable lengths to get his younger son to the Abbey. True, it sticks in the craw that Harry is said to be laying down conditions for his attendance or is being offered other inducements. Some of these, such as where he might sit, seem childish. Others, such as the suggestion that he should be allowed to retain his titles if he attends, have far more serious implications.

So, red lines need to be drawn. The King needs to be careful not to be seen as weakly surrendering to threats. Precisely where those red lines are drawn calls for resolution as well as skill and sensitivity. One hopes his advisers are up to the task.

As for poor Prince William, his own raw feelings must similarly be parked for the occasion. As the royals are trained to do, he must simply suck it up.

I get sick of people saying Charles should suck it up for Harry. F*ck that whiny brat!

Can you tell I didn’t come from royalty? :P

This is interesting....

Madeline McIntosh, one of the most powerful figures in American book publishing, is stepping down from her role as chief executive of Penguin Random House U.S., the company announced on Tuesday.

The announcement comes during a time of great turbulence for Penguin Random House, by far the country’s largest book publisher. Markus Dohle, who was the chief executive of Penguin Random House, and McIntosh’s boss, resigned from his position in December.

The company remains a hugely powerful force in the business. It publishes acclaimed literary novelists like Kazuo Ishiguro and Colson Whitehead, blockbuster commercial authors like Dan Brown and E L James, and children’s classics by Eric Carle and Dr. Seuss. This month, it said that Prince Harry’s memoir, “Spare,” sold more than 1.43 million copies in the U.S., Canada and Britain on its first day, including presales.

But shortly after that book’s release, another longtime executive said she was leaving the company. Gina Centrello, the president of Random House, the division that published “Spare,” announced she was retiring.

It was primarily a party to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the cosmetic brand Anastasia Beverly Hills and the founder, Anastasia Soares. I'm sure all the A-listers are clients of hers.
Anastasia Beverly Hills has been getting a lot of on-line hate for something they did. The people who buy aren't buying the line anymore. I guess celebs don't care?

Reading online it seems that the CEO supports or is involved w many controversial figures (Putin supporter among them, anti LGBTQ) so MM probably should consider herself lucky to miss out on a party invite

Truly a "damned if he does, damned if he doesn't" situation for KC, but she makes a good case for inviting Harold.

I say, invite him. Invite him and hope he shows up. Who is going to be the most uncomfortable person in Westminster Abbey that morning? Harry, that's who. He'll be treated with excruciating politeness by people who think he's a loathsome little todger and he'll know it. It'll probably be the most uncomfortable 3 hours of his life.

Oh No Ugh GIF

Besides, is it not true for these big state events, that there is just one broadcast feed? They don't allow dozens of different worldwide networks to set up in Westminster Abbey taking any video or photos they want. They'd use up all the space. So, it should be pretty easy to keep the cameras trained on KC3 and Camilla and the other participants and set up exactly how many shots of the wider audience are allowed. That'll keep the focus on KC3. Sure, the American networks will go on about Harry and MM and where they are seated, or whatever, but they'll also have to focus on the actual broadcast feed and what is actually happening in front of them and it will have zero to do with Harry.

If he doesn't go, I hope he signs on to do commentary with CBS. It would be hilarious. He is no historian. He has no knowledge of the coronation and the reasons why certain things are done. He has limited historical knowledge of his own family and of the UK and he has a terrible memory. He'd be a disaster as a commentator, having to think on his feet. I guess he could comment on some of the guests, oh, there is my cousin Peter Phillips, he always thought he was Granny's favorite, but it was really me who had the special relationship with her.

More bad news for Harry, the coronation is the last huge, worldwide televised event for the foreseeable future. In the last 2 years, we've had both the death and funeral of Prince Philip, the Platinum Jubilee, and then the death and funeral of the late Queen and finally, it will wrap up with Charles' coronation. No more big events for Harry to pout about. No more events to speculate whether he'll be invited or not, or whether he'll show up or not. Only senior working royals are on the balcony going forward after all. The next time any event of the coronation's magnitude happens, it will be the passing of KC3, and William will be in charge and I just bet he's not gonna have any problem telling Harry exactly where to take a seat.
