Price Increase 2016

I travel to Europe at least once a year to shop and this year the prices were not as attractive as my previous shopping trips because of Europe increasing their prices but US prices staying the same. Previous trips I have saved 30 to 40% off US prices.

For example:

Narrow (0.5 inch wide) Clic Clac
USA Retail: $600 (before state sales tax, if any)
France Retail: 510 Euro before VAT refund (equivalent to $581.30 USD with the wholesale exchange rate - xe.com 1.14 USD per Euro)

I have noted that $581.30 is the wholesale exchange rate by banks to banks as we will not get this favorable rate since we have to include any foreign transaction fees charged by our credit cards or the cost of exchanging dollars for Euros. Sure, there are cards that advertise 0% foreign transaction fees but those still tack on 1% to 2%

VAT refunds are not always guaranteed and you have to account for the US duty of 10% upon entering back home.

Hermes VAT refund in France is 10% but we don't get the full 10% back.

The best bargains was when the Euro was around $1.30 in 2009/2010.

Hermes and other brands want to harmonize prices due to the low Euro but now the Euro is gradually increasing and soon Hermes products will cost more in Europe than the US.

Do u know when the prices will increase again?

I'm not sure if the 2nd price increase for 2016 is effective as of now.

But I happened to notice this price difference in the Paddock charm yesterday and today. As far as I can see there's no size difference and no special leather for the more expensive charm?
I also haven't heard anything from my SA!
Anyone notice any further price increase in Europe lately??

That's probably because it's different leather - Swift vs Butler. The latter tends to cost more. :smile1:

I really honestly think they need to bring the US prices down a lot...it's ridiculous how much more Hermès costs here, and it's always been this way.
The value and cost in France is the true value of it as that's where they are based and make almost everything. So that means US price should adjust to euro price (aka actual price) and not just leave it where it is as they raise the actual value to the inflated price.
I couldn't agree more!!!!

For handbags the trip to Paris is still very worth it as it's easier to acquire what you want and the savings are 4 to 5k less. Of course you will pay this in hotel and flight cost however but Paris is always amazing!
