ladies, has anyone bought a pre-owned H purse from the US and paid duties/customs? i've been researching this and seeing a range from 10% to over 30% (the over 30% is freaking me out a bit) thanks tons!!! :hugs:

I haven't purchased a used handbag but was charged 23% (10% duty and applicable GST/PST/HST) on a new Mulberry. Fedex and UPS charge around $40 to act as your customs broker.

thanks pursecrzy! wowza. i've had to pay crazy duties/taxes on some DVF (they ship UPS and i hate their brokerage fees) and louboutins coming from outside the US. but now for purses. sighs. more things to factor in on the total price. i appreciate your help!

Shipping USPS is better for brokerage fees as Canada Post charges less than $10 in fees.

Really late responding to this, but I've bought a pre-owned H bag from the US and paid taxes, duties and brokerage fees. The bag was about $2300 and the charges were over $600 :faint: because the seller used Fed-Ex. I think a lot of professional re-sellers prefer to use UPS, Fed-Ex and DHL for international shipping because they'll handle high value goods.

Yeah, I had another that was $950 & I was charged $56 total... USPS is the way to go for low duties! (assuming we don't have another strike :p)

Isn't there also a rather high sales tax in CA? Go South!
Yes, there is a combined HST tax, which is 13% and non refundable (anymore) to U.S. Citizens, alas. The Canadian 90 cm. scarves are $425 vs. our $385. The largest difference is in any cashmere items. Their gm s/c shawls are about $1,400 plus that 13% tax. Ooooooooooh no. I live about 110 miles from Toronto and visit there many times a year to touch, feel and buy a scarf or two. Lovely city, great way to see the scarves in person! The prices are prohibitive, I agree.

Did the SA tell you when this increase will happen? The prices are already so high and I definitely have my eye on a couple of scarves this season. Makes me think I should rush to the store!
