For me, I go for bags that cater for what I take with me from day to day, mainly a laptop, notepads, diary and stationary.

Referring to comments earlier about guys judging a girl for the size of purse she carries, I have to say it wouldn't really be a factor in me making a decision about whether or not to date her.
On the other hand, if she bought an LV XL Grand Wardrobe with her to dinner, I'd be raising both eyebrows!

Haha that's insightful! I think guys and gals have different perspectives in this area! But I totally get where you're coming from!

Honestly, it depends.

Originally, I used to carry biggish, crossbody bags, or soft backpacks (when I was a student).

Then I used to carry small clutches, or even continental wallets, on occasion, most of the time.

However, the things I carry seem to have grown in size, over the years...

For example, I bought a concealer, recently and it's the size of a small house brick. xD

So, I gave up on the tiny bags and gradually, started carrying bigger clutches and now I seem to be, mainly, back to "proper" bags, with straps.

I put "medium" - but, by that, I definitely don't mean medium-sized shoulder bags, with dainty little short handles/straps.

I mean either (approx.) 12" clutches; or 14" - 18" slouchy bags, with long, crossbody straps.

Possibly, the latter would, technically, fall into the "large" bag category?

However, given the huge bag trend, of a few years ago, I'm trying to avoid seeming like I want to carry around a bag the size of a suitcase, all the time.

Oh and if I do carry a larger bag, I very rarely more than half-fill it.

So, as I only carry slouchy larger bags, they end up looking more-or-less the size of their contents, anyway.

I was also amused by the comment of the man judging a woman by the size of the bag she carried. I used to work with a gentleman who judged women based on their creativity with their hair styles. If they could make their hair look different all the time, she was good to go as far as he was concerned. At this time I did a concealed roll of my eyes [emoji849], oh boy, never heard that one before.....That helped him pick his wife. Of course I was not surprised when I learned of their divorce a couple of years later. Maybe she wasn't happy with his judgment on things, who knows. It was funny to me at the time (that being said, I don't wish divorce on anyone, nor bad hairstyles).

I like larger bags, but it does seem that size is a bit subjective. I have a Louis Vuitton Cabas Mezzo. I feel it is a large bag. Someone upthread called it a medium bag. I have a vintage French Company Speedy, I consider it a small bag. But yes, I know there are bags much smaller than this. My Neverfull MM is a perfect size for me. The Totally PM just a bit too small.

I live in California where we no longer get bags in stores, so I put my purchases in my purses. Plus I usually become DH's pack mule when we are out together.

Right now I have a rib injury, so I am using my Speedy. I wanted a small-ish bag that I have to hand carry, so that it won't bump my ribs. I LOVE my speedy, but I miss a shoulder carry bag. Remembering now why I don't carry it often. Then I went to the drug store and purchased some things that I needed to carry out without a bag. They fit in my beloved Speedy, but not as easily as in my Neverfull or any other number of totes I usually carry.

I would say for day to day, definitely large. I need to haul around a ton of useless stuff ha. If I'm shopping and moving about, a crossbody. I want my hands free to carry shopping bags!

Depends on the situation... my collection is a balanced mix of bigger and smaller bags..

However, mini & huge bags do not belong in my collection.... unless you count my huge ikea bag which i take thrifting as a 'bag' haha

Yeah, it's funny how some people seem to develop a certain, fixed, notion of what is important, or not.

Often based on quite random things.

You always kind of wonder if they later live to regret it, or cling to it throughout life, regardless.
