I only got into fragrances in the last few years and I’m bummed that I missed Ostara; it sounds lovely.

Have you tried Bluebell from Penhaligon’s? I need to sample it a few more times to make up my mind but I think I like it. I believe it’s actually a hyacinth fragrance.
Ostara is lovely! It was out for only a short while before they discontinued it; not sure why since I don’t think it had any restricted ingredients. Lily & Spice was another beauty by Penhaligon’s that was also sadly discontinued. I have been looking for a bottle of Lily & Spice for a long time without any luck. I have a back-up of Ostara that I sometimes think I should let go of, but have been hanging onto it for the present.

As for Bluebell, I actually have a bottle! You have inspired me to go look for it in my basement where it is stored. I remember trying Bluebell when I first got a bottle but that was some years ago and I was more ambivalent about hyacinth at that time so I put it away to try again later. Well, that time has arrived now.

Have you tried Chamade? It has a protracted opening with a pronounced hyacinth note, but the hyacinth is mostly gone by the time it arrives at the drydown, which is warm with amber and a bit of vanilla.

Will try and report impressions of Bluebell in a day or two.

I had not heard of Lily & spice. Will sample it if I ever get the opportunity!

I haven’t tried Chamade yet, but I love Guerlain so I bet it’s gorgeous. Will definitely try it the next time I’m at a store/counter! When I went to Guerlain in Paris last summer I was focused on Shalimar and Samsara; I can only sample a couple of fragrances at a time before my nose gets overwhelmed

@mocktail, my nose also gets overwhelmed quickly so when sampling, I limit myself to sniffing 2 or 3 scents at a time. Hope you enjoyed your sampling of Shalimar and Samsara in Paris.

Well, I’ve been running around the last few days hunting for a cabinet to hold my ever growing perfume collection all in one place, so although I’m wearing Bluebell, I haven’t paid as close attention to it as I’d like to. Nevertheless here are initial impressions.

The initial spray has a somewhat vegetal note that’s not exactly inviting, especially if one is used to sweet pretty modern florals. However, as it develops, it’s really lovely, so much so that I couldn’t believe it was Bluebell that was smelling so good as I was wandering around today looking at vintage furniture. It reminds me again of the importance of waiting and not coming to conclusions right after the first spray.

The sort of sappy, green stems in a vase of water opening evolves into a delicately spicy hyacinth fragrance. There are some other floral notes in there (I detect rose), but not all are immediately discernible to my nose. You have to like hyacinth to enjoy this fragrance, and overall, it has a slightly retro vibe, bringing to mind quiet walks in the countryside and picturesque cottage life.

I must say I love the bottle with its pale blue liquid, blue ribbon, and the sprig of bluebell flowers on the label. Thanks again for bringing this to my attention. I added Bluebell into the spring rotation and love it.

I've had the good fortune of sampling both Profumum Roma and Jovoy Paris recently. I really enjoy both of these houses.

From Profumum, I'm really loving Acqua di Sale (tried twice, loved both times) and Vanitas (first try and it's such a great simple vanilla). Would like to own both of these at some point. They're great.
I enjoyed Acqua e Zucchero the last time but on a 2nd try found it to be too much for me (got complimented on it a lot, though).
Sorriso and Confetto both smell like coconut suntan lotion on me! Disappointments for sure.
If anyone has recommendations from this house, please share. I'm quite keen to try more of them.

From Jovoy, I got to sample Fire at Will (nice vanilla, a little toasty?); Ambre Premiere (Really nice spicy perfume. Not for me, but really good if you like spice); and Psychedelique.
Psychedelique confused me because it smelled exactly like Profumum's Patchouly. That could have happened because I sampled them last and I was overwhelmed by that point.

I've discovered that I don't enjoy patchouli on my skin at all. Don't mind it on a test strip, can't take it on me. I've also found that I prefer lighter fragrances to stronger ones.

My SA says she has a new Korean brand in stock for me to try when I pass by next week, as well as some Masque Milano fragrances. Should be interesting.

Did you find something suitable? I'd imagine it's quite hard to store a lot of bottles properly, since you'd want to access all of them easily but not have them take up too much space.

Happy to hear you're getting to enjoy some perfumes now your sense of smell is back to working properly. I also love Vanitas!   Lovely vanilla!

I’ve found something but I am not sure how suitable it is. It’s an older buffet/sideboard that I found in an antique shop. It’s an older furniture piece but not antique, and is in beautiful condition, with carving swirls on the front. I bought it and am now wondering if I should use it to keep serving dishes (even though I don’t entertain much). I had originally planned to get a taller armoire or bookshelf with doors but couldn’t find anything immediately, at least in the vintage furniture shops. Still thinking about it.

If you get to try Masque Milano perfumes, please do share your thoughts on L’Atessa if you happen to find it. I have been curious about it for a long time. Same with Profumum Roma- it’s a house I’ve wanted to sample for a long time, but lack of easy access to samples (other than buying online) has been a deterrent. Oh well, it’s probably best that I don’t have easy access to these perfumes since there are so many perfumes that are already in my collection that need more attention. But I do enjoy reading about what others on this thread are sampling or enjoying so please continue to share your perfume experiences.

Thank you so much for your description of Bluebell! Glad you're enjoying it for spring

On June 1 I swapped out my spring fragrance capsule for my summer capsule.

Spring capsule (March 1 - May 31, so they are sleeping now until 2025)
  • Diptyque - Eau capitale
  • Diptyque - Philosykos EdP
  • Hiram Green - Philtre
  • Hiram Green - Vivacious
  • Frederic Malle - Carnal flower
  • Frederic Malle - Cologne indelebile
I track what I wear each day (yes, I am a nerd). This spring, I wore Carnal Flower the most, 21 times. Carnal Flower was also my most worn fragrance in spring 2023, though I only wore in 13 times then. I guess I was really craving tuberose this year!

Summer capsule (in use June 1 to August 31)
  • Diptyque - Eau rose EdP
  • Diptyque - Ilio
  • Heeley - Hippie rose
  • Heeley - Zeste de gingembre
  • Hiram Green - Lustre
  • Matiere Premiere - French flower
  • Voyages imaginaires - Grand jeu
  • Zingaro - Violetta
Last summer Hippie Rose was my most-worn fragrance. I love rose with spice + patchouli, but I will probably be going into the office more this summer so Ilio, Zeste, and Eau Rose might get more wears than they would otherwise. I think they might be the most office-safe options in this capsule.

I met Hiram in person. I had a question about the fragrance Lustre. In Amsterdam in a perfume boutique when I sprayed Lustre, a SA was surprised as the scent smelled exceptional and lustrous on my skin. I was hesitant, thought just a sale trick. But it was true, mr Green repeated the same words.
I like Slowdive as well but I own Shangri-la the first version and Lustre.
Matiere Premiere - French flower
Very bright scent, I have 2 wish lists, prior and by chance, it is between them  together with their rose-y scent (rose radical?)

At the moment I am holidaying and testing HPRD samples and the rest from my sample box. We travel enough and what I like at home on my skin smell different in the mountains or in the south. To my surprise HPRD SB ( from my sample sack) are not changeable.

I got to test it. I'd only warn you that I'm an amateur at this and am not sure my opinion counts for anything at all.
I tested iris-centred fragrances on 2 days, including L'atessa. Figure I should put down my notes on all of them.

The lighter ones:
Glossier You- there's something super harsh here. Scrubbed it almost immediately.
Orris Tattoo- a likeable, simple iris. Stuck around all day. Got boring quickly, but I can imagine it as a safe office scent.
Sonic Flower- leans closer to Tattoo than You but, as it develops, it smells like day-old perfume (a nice one, mind you, but stale-ish). Not sure if that's my skin or the fragrance.

The complex ones:
Iris de Nuit- It's a contradictory fragrance. It's dark. It's rooty. It's still airy, though. Not sure how they managed that but it's somehow substantial and light at the same time. It's also sharp and soft at the same time. The contrasts are interesting and sniffing it as it developed was fun. My personal favourite of the ones I tried.
Iris Malikhan- Iris and incense. I remember trying this before and thinking it's more incense than iris at that time, too. It's thick and suffocating. I scrubbed it both times I tried. My SA said it's the best example of iris, but to me, it's too, too much.
Lost Alice- It's soft, it's mostly iris, but it's very nondescript to my nose. The SA kept telling me it's complex and there's tea in there, but I may have been overwhelmed by Iris Malikhan to the extent that I couldn't smell this properly.
L'Attesa- This was like Iris Malikhan to me in that it was instantly too much. It was an iris bomb. The SA said it should be fizzy at first, then creamy, but all I got was thick, linear, overpowering powdery iris. It's somehow also waxy in texture. The longer it sat, the more waxy it felt.
I'm sure many would find it heady and lovely, but I dislike anything too strong. I love everything I've tried from Heeley because it's all transparent, but I can't do anything from Matiere Premiere because they're like being punched in the face with scent. Though Masque Milano's L'Attesa is not as strong as anything from Matiere Premiere, it is very present, very dense and I'd imagine it would leave a strong trail everywhere you went.

I also got to play around with some Musks the other day.
Musk K- wow, this smells like a Bounce dryer sheet. It immediately brought a crisp, starched white shirt to mind. However, there's something in the dry down that didn't work for me. Nice but, the price point is...ambitious, for what you're getting.
Soft Tension- This is something I need to try again because I couldn't figure it out. It's musky and light, but also very salty?
Mono Cachemire- The winner by a mile. Easy, clean, crisp, bright. I actually loved it on me. Very soft but could clearly smell it for 10 hours.
The price on all 3 of these seemed a bit much for what you're getting (soft, clean, laundry), but I can't deny they're all good enough to warrant that if you have the budget. I'd jump on the chance to own Mono Cachemire because it had me feeling really crisp during an extremely hot day.

It was really fun sniffing by note/category, rather than by brand. I found it easier to figure out what I liked that way.
