just my understanding that why Rolex is not a consider a fine watch house cause its movement is not in house manufactured and thats seems like a 'big' thing for watch collector.
but for civillians like me, i think Rolex is a fine watch(or even a great watch) cause, 'Rolex' itself is valuable, resale value for rolex is easier, and people recognised Rolex the brand...

My dad is a watch collector. His Rolex is his "beater" watch. He still wears it and enjoys it... Just doesn't wear it when he goes to his weird watch collectors parties. Weird stuff... They dump all of their watches on a table and pass them around. Million + in watches.

I wear a Michael Kors fashion watch. It must look a lot more expensive that it was because I get rude comments on how I could afford it. On the other spectrum, my mother has very modest taste in jewelry but likes a nice watch. On a shopping trip in Chicago, she was snubbed by every boutique but Cartier. They knew the lady with the .5 carat wedding set and fleece jacket was wearing a $30k watch.

It's like whether you prefer 'ostentatious' or 'understated' style....Rolex is without doubt the former and is coveted among Asians. It's like proclaiming to the world that you have 'arrived'. I own Rolex, Omega, Cartier, Chanel, Tag Heuer, Michele, Renato and other watches. So far only my Cartier and Rolex get the most attention despite them being having no diamonds and plain looking.

Who cares what this Ng guys says. Honestly you should just be happy that you are among the few that can afford a watch like that. I love rolex just bought my first and I am thankful every day that I can afford to buy one. The economy has caused a lot of people to lose their jobs and more.
