I have both and I get more use of my diamond studs. I have two piercings in each ear, and I wear my studs on the second piercings day in and day out. I usually reserve my first(bottom) piercings when I go out, and then I wear some drop pearl earrings or something more "fancy."
I am a fan of both pearl and diamond. I will vote diamond for earring studs. I have my ear holes for 20+ years but my holes would close if I don't wear my earring for a week. So I kept my earring on 24/7 until I lost one last weekend at my kids swimming class. My pearls are Mikimoto. The SA informed me I should always to put on my perfume before my earring. Plus, I scratched my studs with my cell phone before. 
Both!!!! I have 1ct diamond studs, .75ct diamond studs, 1ct diamond studs with a pave setting, white Akoya pearls, and Tahitian pearls. I have 2 holes in each ear so you can mix and match them. If I am dressed up, I usually wear diamond earrings, diamond solitaire necklace, diamond ring, etc. But, I love, love, love the casual look, with a ponytail, and oversized pearls. 
I have both, but I really don't wear either of them. I mostly wear hoops or dangle earrings. If I am going to wear one of them it's usually the diamonds though.
I like both but prefer diamonds. I normally have 3 sets of diamonds in. I just recently got the third whole and a small 1/5(1/4 was to large in that part of my ear) in them, 1/2 in second, 1 in first. Sometimes I mix and match and stick my pearls in too 
I'd say it's great to own a pair of both, but if I had to choose just one I would say diamond studs because I love anything that sparkles
Like many posters, I have a pair of both and love both. However, I find myself wearing the diamonds much more often. They just seem to go with so many more outfits and jewelry options. Thanks for letting me share.
Sure OP had made the choice long back since this is a pretty old thread, but here's what I think. Between a pair of diamonds and a pair of pearls, diamonds. They go with everything. That being said, once I got captured with the variety of pearls, my diamonds get very less wear. Pearls are captivating, specially tahitians. How about diamond studs with a dangling pearl jacket?
I just never wear my diamond studs. I have a pair, but they stay in my travel case. I've never managed to see past my grandmother's (admittedly very silly) rule of "no diamonds before dark".
My pearls are worn regularly, since they were welcomed by my grandmother at all hours.
I really need to get over this, but it's probably too late.
