Pearl Education (Warning: Somewhat of a Rant)

Well, I bought the first strand because it's a pretty good deal for 60" of fw baroques, especially since the retail for an 18" strand of the same quality is usually in the low $200s. I don't know about the dyed freshwater though, it just depends on what colors you want them to be. I'm more of a purist, but a lot of gals on TPG seem to really like them.

Could you possibly post a modeling photo of these? I'd love to see them ON someone...you could chop off your head (figuratively, of course!) if you don't want to post your face. Thanks so much.

Yup, I don't know when it will get here, but I'm excited about them!

BTW- The akoyas are perfect!! Are these the ones on the sale page that are 9mm?

Thanks callire :flowers:
Yep, they are the white akoyas 9.5mm on the sale page  - incredible bargain! I love the mirror-like lustre, and amazing orient! And a perfect size for me.. I can't wait for my baroque strand too!!

Got down to taking a better pic...

Got my strand today! The ones with flash capture the luster, but the last few are the most accurate imo. I think I'll return mine, just because I'm a stickler for quality. I definitely want a strand of round fw though, maybe I'll see if I can exchange...

Please 'scuse the scratches on my neck, I accidentally caught it when I was pulling it on and off.

^^ okay Callire, educate me...the pearls that you bought are beautiful. So why the return? Are they not lusterous enough? Besides, what exactly is luster and orient? I cannot tell the difference between the two. Does luster mean that I can see my reflection in the pearls? Also, are baroque worth less (or more) in comparison to other types of pearls like button, oval, potato? Thanks!

Luster is the shine of the pearls, and orient is the color of the "inner glow." Round pearls are the ideal, then the price goes down for each type, although there is a very strong baroque market out there, and baroque pearls often have more luster/orient than round pearls (just look at keshi) because there's usually more nacre and it's easier for the light to play off the shapes.

I think I'll return because while they are beautiful, I think I simply prefer round pearls. These also verge on potato baroque, while I prefer drop baroque. I might keep them though, I'll ask a few friends to see what they say ;)

Thanks for posting Callire. Ouch, those marks on your neck look a bit painful! Did the pearls do that to you or was there a clasp? With the
flash, the pearls look great on your skin, but wthout the flash they look yellowish against your skin. Did you try them only wrapped around twice on your neck, or would that be an awkward length?

callire, I feel so sad that you are not truly satisfied with the baroques. I hope you can find something that's more suitable. I am waiting for mine and hope they turn out satisfactory for me. :smile1:

This FWP baroques are still a tart small for my complete liking, even tho I intend to use them for more casual wear, like my recent rope FWP. I still hope to get a strand of bigger baroques, those of the SSPs. Still waiting for a reply from TPO.;)

callire, sorry to hear you're returning your strand...hope you find what you like...like geminisparklers, I'm also waiting for my strand to arrive :smile1:

I actually really like it, and I am not one to gravitate towards pearls with flat backs. I think it has a lovely casual chic look that would go really well with jeans and a T, and I love the way it looks unstructured (round to me equals structure). I think you should keep it.
