Japster! What do you call the colours of the individual pearls of the first strand (the one that is pastel multi-coloured)?
amazing!! So pretty!! I haven't made it through this whole thread yet (that's one of my weekend projects, who needs books!!) but had to comment. I looked on teh website but just saw a rope of akoya pearls....didn't see anything like this under freshwater pearls. Am I looking in the wrong place?? I have got to put these on my to-do list....for when I'm a bit more financially solvent than right now, lol!!![]()
Confession: Does anyone else find themselves e-stalking Jasper's June sale page? I just keep thinking of the 50% off code....![]()
There are light pistachio, silver-light sky blue, and light aubergine in that strand. And yep the colors are totally natural.
*ahem*....every single day....
The nacre thickness has to do with culturing time - some of the farmers have been practicing "short culturing" to compete with the vast amount of other farmers, which has lead to the paper thin nacre coatings.
The water environment also has a slight effect on the thickness too. For example, the warmer waters in Vietnam speed up Nacre accumulation and have lead to the thicker nacre seen in the Vietnamese Akoya pearls.
PS. I'm pretty sure that Jeremy carries the Vietnamese Akoyas- if not I'm almost positive that his brother Terry does (TPO).
