Payment question for those who purhcased birkins from H directly...

You can pay any way you want including by wire, but I recommend:
CC with purchase protection/no foreign transaction fee if you're overseas - usually this gives you 90 days of protection against theft/damage etc., although there is sometimes a 10K/item limit.
Cash if you are seeking to launder money ;)
LOL that last sentence. A lot of that was going on a few years ago when the mainland Chinese were flush with cash. There was a newspaper report that the Singapore LV couldn't keep enough stock on the shelves because these customers would just plonk down cash for "one of everything".

This is the funniest thing! Laughing so hard [emoji1]
Great advice about the purchase protection with CC purchases, I always forget about that benefit. I usually pay with a cash-back rewards card, but I always forget about the benefits of AmEx. Cash isn't an option for me since I don't carry much cash; it is rarely needed these days.
Did this thread start out about how to purchase a croc Birkin with CC? I don't understand the premise, but the advice is still good about benefits of different methods.

All joking aside, there are strict limits as to how much cash one can cross borders - both in and out - with. They are anti-money laundering laws so you should check that out before exporting large amounts of cash.

Not to mention all of the other reasons offered here.

Not Hermes but my last handbag buy from my local LV was in cash, yes i walked around a mall with a large wad of cash in my handbag ...because a previous buy resulted in my bank not allowing the purchase to go thru...i guess recent issues w fraud at that mall the LV was in...so it took ages, i had to call the bank + the SA had to call the main HQ in the USA for authorization...it was so tedious...so i just bring a wad of cash now BUT the SA told me lots of customers just plop down several thousands in $$$ for bags...very common. I assume H is similar. i could only imagine the hassle if i tried to buy a bag at H.

Tons of people pay cash. Just saw a croc B bought for cash in California. The SA didn't blink an eye. While I like all the protection and points of Amex Centurion/Platinum and Chase Sapphire, there's a certain brio to laying out that cash!

Credit card is the safest way. You wouldn't want to be walking with 5-6-7K euro in Paris. That's just a big no-no.
This thread isn't Paris-specific (not that I've seen anyone advocating running around Paris with stacks of Euros). I'm not sure why everyone feels Paris is more dangerous than other cities. It's not Monte Carlo, but it's not a specifically high-crime town (and now I'm off topic :p).

I've bought 2 B at my home store in Sydney. Have paid with credit card each time. Purchase price well under card limit but I transfer the cash immediately over to my credit card immediately after purchasing. Plus for this is that I get points on my credit card for each purchase and also much safer than walking around with the cash.

I do the same. I have an Amex Blue Cash Preferred with a high limit, which by the way is a great card for any shopper! While I only get 1% back at Hermes, I do get 3% at department stores (as well as 3% at gas stations and 6% at grocery stores). It kind of alarms me that anyone would walk around with upwards of $10k, especially in a big city, but to each their own. It's actually funny, because Amex will occasionally call if there is an expensive charge, but Hermes is smooth sailing! :p

I pay off my credit card every month and would never buy something for which I didn't immediately have the money.

I'm the same. Pay off the balance in full with each statement. You're so right! Never get a call about Hermes transactions from my bank either.
