Hi ladies!

I just purchased a M/L flap with Black Hardware, and I am having a hard time telling whether it is patent or vinyl. I own a few patent items from recent seasons and the patent feels soft. The quilting on this bag is much firmer, but I am not sure if there is a difference because it is 97P.

Does anyone have any experience on how to tell? did Chanel ever make vinyl M/L flaps (seems like they wouldn't use vinyl for their more classic items)? the interior is fully lined with leather, which makes me think this is patent.

thank you!

Thanks for the input! Yeah if it is vinyl it is def not worth it. I am really hoping Chanel doesn't produce bags in vinyl.

Is there any way to tell patent from vinyl?

Chanel made vinyl flaps for the Paris Moscou 08-09 series. As far as I understand and they are called vinyl flaps. I don't have one so I wouldnt know personally how they are.

thanks for all your help guys! i think i figured it out after taking it to a leather specialist and speaking to a couple Chanel SAs.

it's patent! whew! apparently patents are much softer now but used to be stiffer. also, vinyl Chanel items are lined with fabric or canvas, whereas patent items are lined with real leather. just FYI in case anyone else has the same question!

I have a flap bag that's made in 96-97. It's a 4-series and it's in patent leather. Agree, the patent is not as soft as the patent of my Brilliant wallet bought last year. It's still durable, though.

Btw, some of the In-Business flaps that came out last year and early this year (?) came in vinyl. But the back of the flaps is leather, while the lining is fabric.
