Great pic ... You may already know this, the Lincoln demi parure came from Tiffany and cost about $565 at the time (or around $12k in today's dollars), and her dress was $2000 - both fairly large sums for the day. Lincoln couldn't afford the entire parure (which I believe had brooches and earrings) but this is so pretty. Pearls were, as then, ultra fashionable.

I knew Mrs Lincoln had expensive tastes and liked to shop. I guess Lincoln not being able to afford the entire parure does makes sense, though I never knew. Mistikat you are a wealth of information on this subject! Thank you for sharing !!:flowers:

Photos of the original Jackie Kennedy engagement ring are few and far between. This isn't great, but I think based on descriptions that it was more of a princess style, with tapered baguettes surrounding the emerald. She added the large square cut diamond and the marquise stones. I quite like the redesign, though. It's very pretty and unique. View attachment 3611560

I've seen the one at the top/above referenced as the original style, but these are not baguettes. it does look similar to the ring on her hand, though.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I did not know of it!

Nancy reagans flag ring. Very patriotic. Credit Christie's. Other jewels of nancys. I hope I haven't repeated them:blush:

Was he famous at the time of the wedding? Maybe I should go look for a quick bio on him...I wonder how many others have gotten a discount at graff for publicity...and how I wish there was a slight possibility of this at Hermes!!:giggle:

He's been famous in NY for at least as long as I can remember...as a kid, I knew who he was in the early 80s.

Mary Todd was quite the spendthrift and nearly drove her husband into bankruptcy. Lincoln was always fretting about it.

View attachment 3612806 I would never have guessed that this necklace belonged to Martha Washington. It looks utterly contemporary.

Amazing! The original "Tin Cup" necklace. I wonder what karat of gold those strands are. They're so dark and rich they look like at least 18K.

Hilary's necklace identified as Elsa Perretti and earrings David Yurman.

I saw a photo of Hillary during her first turn as FLOTUS wearing a thick multi-strand freshwater seed pearl choker. They were fashionable at the time. Can't locate the picture now however.

The GIA has an article for Presidents' Day on the First Ladies jewelry! Perfect timing! Will post the pictures soon!

http://4cs.gia.edu/en-us/blog/first-lady-jewelry/

The article talks about the wood bangles that Michelle ***** had made from a tree that had fallen. I guess she gave them as gifts to heads of state, I wonder if any of them ever wore them? It would interesting to see them on...

The first two are from Mamie Eisenhower. The rose cut diamond bracelet was gift from the premier of Tunisia. What a great title!

Hillarys portrait does not do her justice but I like the jewlery. Is there ever a portrait that makes the subject look amazing? Sorry for the off topic question. :blushing:
