But this topic actually made me think if i really want to be associated with the lv fanboys and fangirls who won't buy lv just because it is manufactured in China.

You are not wasting your time. Just because we disagree doesn't mean the conversation has to stop. If we only talk with people who share our world views, how can we grow?

I honestly don't understand why you are so worked up this morning. And why is it so hard to understand that part of the appeal of a Louis Vuitton product is that it is not manufactured in China, but rather in Europe and in the USA? Don't we buy enough products made in China?

I am willing to pay premium price for a product made in Europe or in the USA because I know it costs more to manufacture in these areas. I don't understand why this is so shocking to you.

LV is a french company with a long history. I'm willing to pay the price for european (or american but pointless to buy LV in the US since I live in Paris) standards and respect of manufacturing and history. I'm sorry but I'm not buying a 1K or more bag made in China...

I think it really depends on who is making it and the conditions. Obviously working conditions in the US and Europe tend to be better, but you'd be surprised at how prevalent illegal working conditions and low wages are in these countries. In my opinion a skilled craftsman in China is the same as a skilled craftsman in Italy, or France, given that the working conditions and procedures are the same.

I think price should depend on quality rather than where it's made. You can have a sh**ty worker in Italy or you can have one in China. Same goes with good workers too.

China's government strategy is to provide low cost labor. Should we question that? The problem is the general perception of factories in China. But a great worker in China is paid many times less than a great worker in the west. That's why I am okay paying a lot for a bag made in the west, but not for a bag made in China.

Yeah that's why I said "given the working conditions and procedures are the same."

You make a valid point. I wouldn't want to put my money into a brand that practices unethical procedures, like EXTREMELY low wages etc. But in regards to where it is made...I don't think it really matters.

Because to achieve the same working conditions it still may be a lot less, even after adding shipment and taxes.

A lot of brands practice unethical modes of production, especially in China. But there are some in China that are ethical and have the same working conditions as the workshops in Italy, France, etc. That's what I'm trying to get at. So paying the premium price for a bag made in China should be justified given that everything is the same as the workshops in Italy.

The same argument could be applied to the luxury Apple products that are made in China. Yet we all still keep buying them... Even the $10,000+ solid gold Apple Watches were made in China! They put up nets to catch the workers! But everyone has a don't ask, don't tell attitude about it.

If you had a choice between Apple products made in the USA or made in China, which one would you buy?

I've read that there are something like 200+ Chinese owned factories in Italy. Wondering if it's true?

Products made in China are very high quality, the only complaint I would have is the price point as another poster mentioned above if I were to purchase a luxury bag made in China. Other than that I have no issues with anything made in China/Taiwan/Hong Kong.

The point is you get what you pay for in any country. If you want dollar store price, the quality will be $1 quality, and just because its made in China doesn't mean Chinese products are bad quality. In fact, for $1, China can probably produce a better product that another country for the same amount of money and labor...which is why we see so many cheap products from China. The demand creates the supply.
