Forewarning: I am in a bad mood today.
I posted earlier in this thread. My husband asked me to pick out a bag for Christmas, and I had a few I was debating between. At this point, ALL of them are showing either out of stock, or call for availability. My local store now has very little stock of canvas, and when I asked about trying to get a Graceful MM in DE, I was offered a waitlist, but told they had no idea if they would even get more at all. The Graceful is the bag I really fell in love with, and now that (and 90% of every other canvas item including basics like Speedy & Neverfull) are nowhere to be found, less than a month from Christmas. I love LV bags & accessories. I want to buy LV, and I want to spend money with my SA. But right now I am honestly feeling like I will just skip a bag this year, or look to another brand that actually has available stock.
While I've bought SLGs in store, all of my LV bags so far have been purchased pre-loved. I was really looking forward to the experience of purchasing a brand new bag in the store. Maybe that's silly, but it's true. I'm not a big buyer. I'm someone who only buys 2-3 bags a year, I'm very deliberate about my purchases, and I don't want to spend $1500 on something I am not truly in love with. I don't want to be forced to buy something I am "meh" about just because it's what's available, or be expected to double or triple what I intended to spend just because some person somewhere decides that I "should" want their more expensive leather instead. (Do they seriously believe that is how it's going to work?) I know people have said this is just how luxury shopping is, but IMHO there is a big difference in a $1500 bag and a 5-figure Hermes, and maybe if that is the case, luxury shopping is just not for me. I guess if the end goal is to be more exclusive and "drive out" the shopper who is only spending $5K or so a year, maybe they are on the way. Staying up until 3 AM stalking websites, jumping through hoops, multiple phone calls & driving all over creation like a scavenger hunt certainly does not feel like a luxurious experience.
I'm super crabby today, so I just have to add that it's unbelievably poor planning to be out of half your inventory less than a month from the biggest shopping holiday of the year.
