Luvleeness - how is your bag now?
I bought my Oroton kiera b hobo in april - I was so happy. I cleaned it every week carefully and treated it like a baby... virtually never put it down, screamed at my husband if he got too close to it. So I was super disappointed to notice damage, slight scratches and small cracks in the leather after only a month - my bag also got the slouchyness. I cried though when I noticed an actual 'graze' in the leather, it started very slowly but got worse after a week, very noticable, so I stopped using it, worried I was making it worse. Has anyone had this?
I love the bag so I took it back into the store, and I am waiting to hear now what they are going to do about it. At this stage I am thinking it will be the first and last Oroton bag I will buy, I am so disappointed.

@nickersk would love to know what they are going to advise you ..
I have this bag too leather started peeling .. And my bag looks like its been over use when i hardly use it .. slouchyness probably because i have it for 3 years ??? I don't know but i don't use this bag anymore coz i'm too scared to make the peeling of the leather worst .. 😔
I have quite a few oroton bags and they are fine

I have a few Oroton bags that I bought about 10 years ago and Sakura is right, they are equivalent to Coach in the US. However, I feel they are overpriced for what they are. Mimco is much the same.

Oroton is certainly an old brand but it's been sold a few times to various corporations. Funnily enough, in the late 90s it was owned by an Australian bank, Macquarie Bank, which I worked for at the time. We used to get Christmas presents with the Oroton logo on them!!! :graucho:

I've got quite a few Oroton bags and honestly I've never had an issue with them. I've had my current Oroton work bag for about 3 years now and have used it pretty much day in and day out. I've jammed it FULL and I mean FULL of stuff and it just keeps going. I do rest it occassionaly and when I do I spray water protectant on it but other than that it's awesome. I have an oroton wallet that I bought on the same day and it's also still going. That being said I have found that the logo fabric purses and wallets does mark very easily but that's the same with most bags. I also have a Mimco day bag and it's kept just as well. Depends on how you treat your bags girls.

Hi Nikersk!
I'm so sorry to hear about your your bag's deterioration. That's very bad.... I dont think this should happen this soon. I would expect 5+ years. I use my bag very frequently since i got them 5 months ago (i think) and had cleaned and conditioned it only once.. within the first month or two. I used Tana Zanolin Quality Conditioner and cleaner with water repellant. But after using it I learned that it's not good for the leather because it hinders the leather to breathe so I got the Apple conditioner/cleaner set from Ebay. Haven't used it yet though. like you I baby my bag (making sure it's not left on the floor or something) amid my hubby's weird look and concern for my mental state hahahaha.....

well, I've realised that having an everyday soft leather bag is not a good idea after all - for me at least. I managed to get it scratched a bit (again!) while leaving the house when it rubbed against a rough brick wall. Other than that I have not noticed any wear related issues. It's time for cleaning and conditioning. I don't know if over cleaning/conditioning is good or bad... what did you use to clean it? did you condition it after cleaning? I've heard Apple leather care products are good and will be using it shortly.

And to prevent slouchiness, fill your bag with some clean paper/tissue and hang in your closet. just make sure the hanger is rounded or covered with a soft fabric so it doesn't scratch or put a dent on the handle etc... since i use the bag a few times a week, i keep all my stuff in there and hang it after use. Let me know what Oroton says... I hope it works out in your favour... You have every right to demand what you paid for.

Hi cbk021726,

I have a small peeling on my bag's handle's inner side. It was there when I bought it - still chose it because i like large pebbled leather more than the small pebbled ones :(

Because it did not got ripped away, I was able to glue it back using Tear Mender http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320749428007&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123.

It's too tiny and I think I applied a bit too much glue. it was originally clear but it has left a black spot. it's like a ball pen dot so I just ignore it now. how big is the peeling? did it happen on its own or it started from a scratch or something? Kindly let me know. Any pics? thanks.

Thanks everyone for your support! I havn't heard anything yet, which I think is a bit off, they have had it a week and the SA said they would get back to me in two days, I left a message with head office on Friday. When I hear the result I will let you all know, and post some pictures :smile1:
I used a sealys leather cleaner/protectant, and the oroton conditioner twice
On another note, I have been using my Tilkah bag in the meantime and love it more every time I look at it! I thought it would be more fragile than the Oroton, but it's amazing... Love their bags!

I'd ring the SA and head office back and keep at them. I hate bad customer service more than anything. I've had items break or not do what they were supposed to but received amazing customer service when I complained....to leave you hanging is just plain rude. I hope it all gets sorted soon for you.

I am a proud owner of a few Oroton bags which I purchased a while ago. I found the quality fantastic. This one bag I wore to death, even after over a year of continuous wear, looked perfect. It was invincible. I'm very careful with my bags though. In the recent years I haven't seen anything interesting there, until a few weeks ago when they brought their Archive collection. I have my eye on the mesh tan mini bag. So cute!

I hope they offer you an exchange for another bag. It's not right for the bag to start falling apart after such a short time. I'm disappointed to find out that Oroton has dropped their quality standards. :( good luck!

I have been in love with the old Oroton frame bags forever. They are made of nice, chewy, burnished leather that look better the longer and harder they are worn. And, they never look out of style. Thumbs up!

I just don't see the quality in their bags, and they don't tend to age very well. Almost all that I've seen look very tattered after not very long. For the above reasons, I don't think their price is justified. While yes it is somewhat the 'Australian Coach', I feel as though Coach has a better quality product offered for a similar price.

Hi Everyone - update. I got a voice mail from the shop on Saturday to say that they assessed the bag as wear and tear. Today I sent a polite letter of complaint via their website and was contacted pretty promptly. They said the warranty doesn't cover wear and tear, as in this case, but as a show of good faith they gave me store credit for the price I paid. So- I don't have the bag any more to post photos of the damage. And I did spend another $250 to get another bag. I am guessing I could have chosen to get my store credit at the outlet store I got the bag from, but I think now I am convinced that they really do sell the dodgy items in the outlet! Or that's what I hope, because I want the new bag to last... hence paying full price! I decided to avoid the hobo's, and now I own a lovely metropolis patent croc grip top in ivory. Not sure how I feel, except glad I don't own a $500 damaged bag. I have tried to attached a photo below of my new bag (not sure if I have done this correctly). I have also attached a photo of my Tilkah bag becuase it is so beautiful :smile1:

I think of Oroton as the Australian version of Coach - although it is a lot less saturated in the market here as compared to Coach in the USA. I find the quality to be quite good, although would never purchase full price as there is a pretty good chance that you can get anything at 50% off if you wait a few months.

I had quite a few Oroton bags, but have given them to my mum since I have "upgraded" to miu miu and ysl, but for that price level, I would definitely recommend Oroton, especially over other brands common in Australia like Mimco.
I was thinking the same thing today! Oroton is Australia's Coach...twinsies, lol
