Not saying you're not entitled to your opinion or suggesting less than earnest in your feelings but whenever I hear/read someone speak like this I always wonder a little bit what would that same person say if she were a man. I've learned the hard way many times over that when women are assertive/confident they are labeled as arrogant; when men are assertive/confident they are labeled as a good business man. Often a subject of business-y women conferences and it's very true.
I've been in meetings where I've purposely said the exact same thing a man has said...exact...verbatim...same tone, same context, same overly-confident posture and received "guidance" that I come across brash or full of myself or something to that effect. I once pointed out to one of my male bosses who gave me said "guidance" that I said the same thing our big boss (white male) said who he agreed with...why exactly was it different coming from me (black female)...he had no words. Since then I've learned how to say the same things without being perceived as such but it's really really hard and frustrating to have to do...it has to be turned on/off.
In any event, I don't know Oprah so I couldn't comment...this woman's story sounds a bit fraud though and she's looking for cash. Why couldn't her lawyers negotiate a better settlement for her if her husband cheated? Why didn't her lawyers say in exchange for signing a confidentiality agreement, here's what we want for our client? Her lawyers gave up that easy...on a target like Oprah. The entire beef industry was ready to take all that Oprah had and this woman's lawyers just gave up. Sure! Suspect written all over it...
