Exactly. And although, as purselova said, that things "aren't the way they used to be," we can all still stand to be reminded of and enlightened that there's still improvements to be made.
Yes, I agree racism still exist and IRL some people still doing great harm to other people because of hate. Few weeks ago I heard a horrible real life story from a older lady in one of my class that her brother was murdered in Vegas by his friend's friends ( who were white) because her brother look very much like white but actually he was mixed African American ( I believed there were some money involved as well but they also hated him for looking too much like white but actually mixed). It really shocked me too but it was true.

Well too bad, I have a LIST of things I could type out here to prove my point.

Just one to mention - my father - 20 years as a police officer, criminal justice degree, LAW degree, passed over for detective twice while minority people were given the job over him with only 3 years on the force. And no degrees. And no they were not black. They were another minority.

I am not saying racism does not exist, just that it does exist on BOTH sides.

As I said before I am a minority so I can give numerous examples that summarily refute your contention that being a minority is "easier" Yes it is "too bad" that people continue to make stupid generalizations.

I am saying that with all the laws that exist to "even things out" they actually create an unfair balance in the other direction.
How else do you explain it when, in order to buy a convenience store, someone who is not a minority has to pay 20% down and is told their first payment on taxes is due in 2 months. While people that are from other countries are allowed to buy businesses with 10% down, and do not pay taxes for 7 years, how is that fair? In that situation it most certainly is easier to be a minority than not.

Anyway, this isn't about racism or affirmative action or anything... it's just about a television show.

And PurseFanatic, I bet if you watched the show you'd change your mind about it being an easier world either in business or in personal interaction for at least black minorities. I'm lucky enough to have never been a victim of racism, so I can't speak to what that must be like. Which is why I think this show is really eye-opening.

Agreed *choosing to walk away from and laugh at offensive ignorance* as court ( and guess what PF I'm the supervising attorney, now you must really be pissed) is in an hour.

I have no problem with people who have earned what they have, what I have a problem with is when people are given things they haven't earned. I am more than proud of anyone, especailly women, when they make something of themselves. Obviously you haven't even bothered to read my posts with the openmindedness you claim I lack. So how do you explain the passing over of a seasoned police officer with 2 degrees? Hmmm? Funny how that's not addressed.

And having an opinion on things that have actually happened to me and my family is not ignorance.

My goodness. Pursefanatic where do i begin................:worried: .

I understand your passion for what happened in your personal family situation. But you must look at it for what it is---your personal experience. Its extremely important for you not to make a generalization and make it about race. That is offensive to many people, including myself.

And to say that it is easier to be a minority "these days" makes you sound very simple minded unless you are yourself a minority.

Please understand that I am not out to attack you. This is a forum that I love and have been a part of for months. I am happy to be united with purse lovers of all kind, from near and far. But after reading your comments I felt the need to express what was on my mind.

Just as we need to think before we speak, lets think before we type.

Hmmmm what is there to address, your personal experience? I haven't seen HR records, conducted any interviews, Day 1 of law school: never assume facts not in evidence. There's nothing to address. I agree with your definition of "having an opinion". But when you leverage your opinion as a (presumably) non-minority into a sweeping generalization about the nature of being a minority that is ignorant. Trust me, I have loads of personal experiences as well.
